Hawks Basketball Lose 2 and Win 1 against Comfort

Hawks Varsity can’t get to the mountain top in loss to Comfort Bobcats last Tuesday night at the Hawk gym, 49-46.

Canyon Lake’s scoring drought with over a minute left in the first quarter lasted with a little over two minutes left in the second quarter and that allowed Comfort to take a lead and win over the Hawks.

“We played stagnant and could not get the ball into the middle,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman said. “Turnovers and frenzy shots did us in, but in the second half we got back into the game when we played man offense against their zone defense.”

By the time CL scored in the second quarter, Comfort had taken their one point deficit and ballooned their lead to an 11 point lead, 26-15.

The Hawks then started chipping away and were able to take the lead in the fourth quarter and a Luke Curry basket with 4 minutes left in the quarter had CL up 43-39.

Another drought ensued helping Comfort regain the lead and game as Andrew Riali’s three pointer was able to bring the game back to a one possession game, but with little time on the clock spelled Canyon Lake’s doom.

Now Canyon Lake will hit the hardwood this Friday and Saturday as they host the Canyon Lake Classic.

Hawks Junior Varsity Lose to Comfort, 44-42

Canyon Lake JV let their five point lead slip away in the second half in their loss to Comfort last Tuesday night at the Hawk gym.

“We came out strong in the first half and played our best half of the season,” Head JV Coach Brian Hooper said. “We executed on offense and got some good looks, but the second half we relaxed on defense and had to many turnovers.”

Justin Ferris poured in 20 points which was almost half of the points CL had in the game. Ferris was the only Hawk to finish in double figures scoring.

Dave Pfaff (7 points) and Samuel Langford (6 points) chipped in but still left Canyon Lake short those two points.

Hawk Freshman flyaway from the Bobcats, 68-26

Hawk Freshman got outscored by one point in their win over Comfort on Tuesday night, 68-26.

This one point was taking all four quarters for Comfort and comparing those points to CL’s Freshman first quarter.

Total domination as the Bobcats just could not get any traction in this loss. The Hawks enjoyed a 43-12 lead going into intermission.

“We came out fast in this game and never looked back,” Freshman Head Coach John Barthels started. “We were able to put pressure on Comfort early and we outplayed them on both sides of the court.”

Canyon Lake had all but one player able to score in this runaway contest.

“We are starting to play better as a team and our two big men are working hard down low and giving good looks to our shooters,” Coach Barthels finished. “We are starting to play as a team more as the season progresses.”

The Hawks pestered the Bobcats winning each quarter and keeping the visitors below 10 points as each quarter transpired.

Impressive win.
