Lady Hawks Lose First Game this Season to John Paul II, 35-32

The Lady Hawks could not overcome their six point deficit in the first quarter and were beaten in their first game of this year at the hands of John Paul II, 35-32.

Canyon Lake did close the gap to three points going into the fourth quarter but could not reach the top of the canyon losing by that same margin.

“We played out of sync,” Head Coach Mary Beth Gallagher started. “John Paul was aggressive and we did not come with our A game and so they capitalized on that.”

The Hawks continue to give too many points away with turnovers and missed free throws as the offense gave the ball back to John Paul 24 times while missing 10 shots from the charity stripe.

“We played hard but we gave up to many turnovers and offensively we never got into rhythm and just did not take care of the ball,” Coach Gallagher said matter of fact. “We will continue to work on taking care of the ball and shoring up our defense.”

Amber Ramsey did control the boards finishing with 14 for this game.

Ramsey had a good all around game with 5 blocks, 4 steals and 2 assists which was certainly her best game of this season.

Ramsey has taken over as Canyon Lake’s all time shot blocker passing Katie Williams with 77 for her career as Williams will now hold second place with 73 in her just completed stay in the Hawk gym.

Ramsey started this year with a one more steal for Canyon Lake, also over Williams but will increase that lead throughout this year as she now resides with 160 for her career in a Hawk uniform.

Canyon Lake will be playing in the Johnson City Tournament starting this Friday and Saturday. Just a short route to take in some Hawk basketball.
