CL Baseball has Potential This Season

past year and there will be several faces returning for a chance of advancing in the playoffs this season.

The graduating players had a .271 batting average and 4.11 era with the largest loss coming from the loss of power. A total of 31 extra base hits have left the diamond with only 16 returning hits other than singles.

Returning players had a .259 average and a 4.42 era. The item to note is an extra year or being one year older can translate into better hitting and pitching.

For instance, Michael Brady had huge improvement from his Junior to Senior campaign.

Canyon Lake has the potential to be a very good defensive team as players that were lost to injury will be returning.

Last year’s team was a musical chair carousel as Coach Trent Dunavant was constantly having to move players around into positions that many times would not be their primary spot.

Cody Powell should be someone to watch with the bat and on the pitching mound.

Powell finished last season with a .394 average as well as a 4.18 era with 30 innings pitched.

Speaking of pitching, CL will also have Ryan Hutcheson coming back with hopes of improving on his sparkling 3.16 era last year with 42 innings pitched.

Peyton Sipila also finished strong last year finishing with a .298 average and a good defensive effort at short stop and second base.

With the return of Garrett Winters who started as a Freshman, missed most of last year with an injury and his return will certainly shore up an infield that should be solid.

Nick Cahill and Tyler Vinson will also be bringing a full season back to the diamond with hopes of improving on their advances last year.

The ReSporter will be bringing you more Baseball articles as the Hawks gear up for what is hoped to be a season to remember.
