Coaches Corner with Softball Coach John Gallagher
The ReSporter: How have your practices been going?
Coach Gallagher: “Practice is going very well. We have a lot of eager minds willing to learn all they can to become better players. The Junior varsity is doing everything they can to be better players by listening and working hard everyday.”
The ReSporter: What have you noticed that has surprised you in what you have seen thus far?
Coach Gallagher: “I’ve been surprised with our team speed on varsity. We have some girls that can run well and know how to execute in situations. I am also very happy that we have some added depth at several positions this year. All of these players are working extremely hard on all parts of their game to earn a spot.”
The ReSporter: What are you looking for as you go into your 4 game scrimmage in New Braunfels this Saturday?
Coach Gallagher: “I will be looking forward to Saturday having my assistant coaches with me to lend two more sets of eyes. I want to see how the team reacts in game situations both mentally and physically. This will go a long way in determining who may play where.”
The ReSporter: Can you give us a percentage of 0-100% of how this team has improved since practiced has started and why?
Coach Gallagher: “I see us about 30-40% better overall than week one. Everyone is very excited to try and make this a great year and I am excited to see how they respond.”
The ReSporter: Defense? Offense? Batting?
Coach Gallagher: “I see us about 30-40% better overall than week one. Everyone is very excited to try and make this a great year and I am excited to see how they respond. Defense is 30% better from more reps and pushing each other. Offense is hard to judge because we have been putting in our plays and signs all week but hitting/bunting has been consistent for the time they have spent in the cages.”
The ReSporter: Will the Basketball Girls be playing tomorrow for the Softball team?
Coach Gallagher: “We will have two basketball players with us but not sure how much time they will get having to play catch-up with terminology. We will bring them on slowly and get them some reps.”
The ReSporter: Thanks Coach, we look forward to getting a report next week on how Saturday went.
