Hawks Rounding 3rd Base for Opening Season
Canyon Lake’s Baseball team will be ramping practice up as the Hawks look for a chance of
improving their district standings with several returning starters.
Two years ago, Canyon Lake finished last in district when the team had to borrow players anywhere they could in fielding a team to finish a season.
That will not happen this year as the Hawks have several returning players and will be bringing a decent JV club up as well.
This is what you can take note from that edition of 2012’s baseball team, that was a young team.
Last year, Bandera had a similar fate after losing several seniors on a playoff team, the Bulldogs record rivaled CL’s record two years ago as Bandera finished last.
This year, Navarro will have a young team and it might be a year where those Panthers will experience some growing pains Bandera and CL had endured these past two years.
Boerne will once again be the team to beat as this Regional Semifinalist finished last season with a 14-1 District 27-3A record.
Carson Cox will give this Greyhound club a good chance of winning their first game of each series as Cox finished last year with an All-District Pitcher patch for his jacket.
Boerne will also be returning three other all-district players to defend their crown.
Wimberley will be returning several players from their surprise second place finish last season.
This Texan team has six Juniors returning and will be led by a Senior JJ Weeks who plays first base/pitcher and was 1st Team All-District.
Fredericksburg finished in fourth place and will be returning some quality players.
Junior Kyle Grona was 1st Team All-District playing the outfield and everyone will remember this student as the Billie’s Quarterback.
Other players that will be counted on for Fredericksburg:
Senior Kody Behrends 2nd Team All-District Utility
Junior Brayden Beard 2nd Team All-District Outfield
Fredericksburg always seems to reload each year, so this team might make a run for a playoff spot again this year.
Canyon Lake will be able to compete with several players returning. That is a statement not used in these past few campaigns.
The Hawks did lose two pitchers, Travis Walker and Logan Felch, and will need to find two pitchers to replace those two pitchers on the mound.
Another big hole to fill will be Catcher Michael Brady who finished last season with a .413 average and was instrumental in making many teams play base to base with Brady’s ability to throw out base runners.
This year’s infield and outfield has a chance of helping the pitchers if they can reduce their errors.
Last year, Canyon Lake, suffered injuries and hopefully that bug-a-boo will not be repeated. Those injuries made Coach Trent Dunavant a tetra guru while he continually moved players to different positions during his in game strategy.
A decent chance of being in the playoffs is certainly possible as this year’s version takes the field soon.
