to a 10 point victory, 68-58 on Friday.

The win will have the Hawks playing at 11:30 Saturday morning against the winner of the Llano and Johnson City game.

CL made four three point shots in the first quarter to wedge a five point lead, 16-11.

Austin Acosta delivered the ball to three of those behind the arc shots and finished with 6 assists for this game.

Andrew Riali and Skyler Tschoepe both finished in double figure scoring with 16 and 13 points respectfully.

Defensively, Canyon Lake, has two players that play like they are twins….wait…they are twins…but Isaac and Jaivier Mendez are very intense on the court forcing as much havoc as possible.

“At this point we all have to come together and know what we need to do to get it done,” Isaac Mendez said defensively. “We are coming together.”

All the players got into the game and scored as Canyon Lake had 41 points in the second half.

Blanco made their run to start the third quarter and closed the five point Hawk cushion with a 9-2 run and 31-29 lead.

Sean Nolan then used his size to score 4 points on consecutive trips then four different Hawks ended the quarter scoring and holding onto a vicarious two point lead, 44-42.

Blanco had tied the score 47 all with six minutes left when the Hawks got hot and finished the game on a 21-11 run.

On that run Trendon Martinez had his only five points of the game, but they were vintage Martinez and that spurt allowed CL to stretch their lead and finish strong.

“When I came off the bench, I just told myself that I had to find a way to help my teammates,” Martinez said. “Once the shot left my hand I had no doubt that it would go in.”

Martinez was a good team player on last year’s club and now being on varsity some adjustments have been in process for this slasher.

“I’m feeling good about my game,” Martinez finished. “I would say I am about 70% of where I was playing last season.”

Many positives from this game as Canyon Lake reduced their turnovers and increased their shooting percentage which gave the result needed for a double digit win.

Coach Chapman continued, “This year everyone can make a contribution and it is up to us to take advantage of it.”

You can see some very positive trends with this year’s Hawk team. Canyon Lake has 10 players that can contribute in some capacity which is evident in the Blanco game having every player scoring.
