Hawks Working on Consistency after Finishing Blanco Tourney
Canyon Lake finished 0fer in their last two games of the Blanco Holiday Hoopfest Tournament on
Saturday.
The Hawks lost their first game, 61-44 to Port Aransas and then finished with a hard fought loss to Llano, 56-46 in the night cap.
CL had a problem getting out of the gate in both affairs after accounting for only 7 points in each game.
However the second quarter was a team that played with rhythm as in each case the Hawks held their own or was able to chip away at the deficit.
Andrew Riali took top honors again in being the Hawk’s best scorer with a 14 and 11 point games.
The inability to play consistently through four quarters haunted this Hawk team.
“We weren’t in the game at all,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman said in responding to the Llano game. “I was proud of how well we played in the tournament and we are finding reasons little by little on how we can win.”
Canyon Lake finished the Hoopfest Tourney with a 3-2 record.
Another good sign was how CL improved in their game with Llano as this game would be the third time on the hard wood this season.
The first two games, Canyon Lake was totally outclassed with lopsided outcomes.
First Game Llano 81 Hawks 38 43 point loss Second Game Llano 75 Hawks 48 27 point loss Third Game Llano 56 Hawks 46 10 point loss
Canyon Lake scored just 12 points coming out of the locker room for the first and second half combined.
Taking those two quarter out of the equation and you have a 34-32 lead for the Hawks.
Unfortunately, basketball is still a 4 quarter game and that is the achilles heel this season in completing 4 quarters of solid basketball.
Haden Lee played a solid game and continues to improve as district games start up next Friday.
“I feel like I am improving,” Sophomore Lee said. “I am getting more comfortable and when I get the ball I am starting to do be more active.”
On how the Hawks as a team or improving after playing a common opponent for the third time.
“We have progressed and there is definitely improvement,” Lee closed. “But I still hate to lose.”
Canyon Lake will have their last non-district game next Tuesday at the Hawk gym when the Hawks take on Gonzales.
