Opera Never Quits in Hawk’s Win over Akins, 15-14

The ‘Fat Lady’ warmed up her voice a few times in this Canyon Lake and Austin Akins game, but was never called on stage as the Hawks had their biggest comeback ever in a win over the Eagles, 15-14.

Canyon Lake had dug a pretty deep hole when they found themselves down 9-0 in the third inning, as Akins had a grand slam in the first inning and another bomb over the center field fence the that five run third stanza.

The Hawks did take a bite out of these Eagles when left-fielder Cody Powell responded with a two run single in the bottom half of the third.

In the fourth inning, Cody Powell told the Opera Lady to sit down again as he had a two run double this time, while JJ Nance had an RBI single and the pitcher of record, Tanner McGill finished the

scoring with a sacrifice fly.

Akins struck back in the final inning with another five run affair that had that ‘Fat Lady’ warming up again for her final song. Akins led, 14-7 and only needed to hold a team that had scored just a high of five runs for any game this year.

The Hawks needed eight runs for a win.

Nick Cahill started the improbable last at bat with a walk and then two strikeouts had CL looking at needing eight runs staring at two outs.

If the Opera was ever in its epilogue then this was surely the stage for a final song. In fact, you could also cue up Don Meredith who would sing the song, ‘Turn out the Lights the Party is Over’, when Monday Night Football was in its infancy.

Walks, two huge errors for what would of been a third out were costly for Akins. Nance had another RBI single and Garrett Winters responded with a two-run double.

Cahill was up again for this inning and this time had a game-tying RBI double. Three walks later Cahill comes home with the winning run and score for a 15-14 win.

Canyon Lake did not have an error in the game and that is a constant that the fans might get accustomed to as this win will go down as one of those all time best for this baseball program.
