Hawks Avenge Earlier Loss to Billies, 8-5
Hawks win their fourth district game in avenging an earlier loss to Fredericksburg on Tuesday night, 8-5.
Pitcher Nick Kissel had a complete game three hitter in this win as the Hawk Pitchers kept their District 27-3A era at 1.99 per game.
Kissel had some aggression working in this game as he had a career high five hit batters which helped the Billies keep innings alive and able to score five runs with only three hits.
Fredericksburg has just one win this year in district and CL was the recipient of that victory for the Billies, but in this game Canyon Lake got in gear in the 4th inning scoring 4 runs and riding that 3 run lead to the end of this game.
The Hawks scored two runs in the first inning while keeping their sixth district foe without a run in that same inning.
Fredericksburg would take a one run lead scoring three runs in those next two innings and then your Hawks took control of the game that next inning.
Nick Cahill started the 4th inning with a single and advanced to second base when Cody Powell reached base next on a Fredericksburg error.
Hot hitting Kyle Krohn singled driving in Cahill after a Corey Shedrock fly out. TJ Jones who is one of the Hawk leaders in rbi’s singled next helping CL with another run with still just one out.
A Peyton Sipila double finished the scoring in that inning and help give the Hawks some separation, 6-3.
Canyon Lake now finds themselves with a one game lead over Wimberley for second place in district play now as a rubber match with the Billies will be at home this Friday with the first pitch at 7pm.
The Hawks are in rarified air as these past four years have been slim pickings for Canyon Lake in the win column.
Those Big Three areas were all in sync for this game with 9 hits and only giving up 3 hits and having a decent game fielding.
In district play, CL is averaging a little over 6 runs per game and have a sparkling 1.99 era from the pitchers mound.
With 18 errors you have to deduce 8 of those dastardly plays were all concentrated in that Wimberley game which happened to be a win.
Not counting that game, CL has a 2 error per game pace and that is not stellar but certainly good enough to get more wins than losses.
Good times for the Hawks but complacency has to stay outside as this district season has 11 more games before the finish line.
