The Hawks have had their share more downs than ups this district season, but things fell into place when this CL team sprinted out for a 5-0 lead and finished off the Greyhounds.

“Kids worked hard all week in practice and we struck early and that was the key in this game,” Head Coach John Gallagher stated. “This will give us some confidence offensively.”

Another home run for Alexis Robinson in that first inning to start the fireworks.

“I was just trying to make contact,” Robinson said.

That contact gave the Hawks the shot in the arm needed in getting out of their doldrums.

Four different players had two hits in this hit parade as the bottom of the order collected four of those 10 hits.

Lizzy Henderson and Tiare Kacir kept innings going with their offense and Henderson seems to be settled in as the everyday first baseman now for Canyon Lake.

“I love it,” Henderson said when responding to playing first base and also being productive at the plate. “I finally found a position that I want to play and we have been working hard and I am feeling

comfortable at the plate.”

“She (Henderson) is working hard and doing all that we are asking,” Coach Gallagher said.

Canyon Lake had a double play when Centerfielder Carly Dubois caught a fly ball and then her throw to Catcher Brianna Young was perfect strike allowing Young in blocking the plate on the Greyhound runner.

“The coaches moved me up on that play,” Young said. “I wanted to take this girl out and did not want her to score.”

Young passed her catching counterpart, Katy Payne, earlier this year in the rbi department and had three more in this game, Young has been on a tear these past few games with her
.460 batting average.

Robinson had her best district game in the circle allowing just one walk and no hit batters with the only damage in Boerne’s three run third inning.

CL would add five more runs after that third inning, helping the Hawks to a comfortable seven run win.

Some good signs from several players as Kelsey Ahrens can say good-bye to her slump, with four hits in her last two games.

But having two walks in this game might have been her most important stat in this contest.

Robinson coaxed three walks after her first inning home run which could of been not intentional, intentional walks. Yes, you read that right, the Boerne pitcher basically did not give Robinson anything to hit for the remainder of this evening.

No Hawk team has hit the ball better than this squad as CL has a lethal dose of weapons to throw at the pitchers.

A team .344 batting average to go along with a .420 on base percentage and respectable
.489 slugging percentage.

That is the one thing that has been missing for many seasons for this Hawk team.

“Hopefully this win will keep our spirits up and we know we can compete with these girls,” Young closed resolutely.

Now a little respite until a Thursday and Friday games next week on the road in Navarro and Fredericksburg.

This win was needed in the worst way and beating a team that had a win over Fredericksburg earlier should help in giving this squad a we can do it attitude.
