Hawks JV in Championship Game after 2-Game Sweep
Canyon Lake Hawks completed a double header sweep today in District 27-3A play at
the Hawk Diamond.
Navarro and Fredericksburg to the damage in 15-4 and 14-9 losses respectfully.
Those two wins will put the Hawks in the Championship game on Saturday with the first pitch at 2pm.
Canyon Lake came back from a 5-1 deficit in their second game with the Billies and responded by outscoring Fredericksburg by 13-4 to close out this contest.
“This team is aggressive,” Head JV Coach Brian Owens said. “When we found ourselves behind by four runs, I told the team to just chip…chip…chip away and it does not take anything fancy and we just got a good team effort.”
Sophomore DH, Gordon McCleary went 3 for 3 keeping the Billies outfielders busy as all three hits were to different parts of the outfield.
“That was my first game back,” McCleary said clearly. “I found myself leading off two of those innings and I knew I had to get on base to start it off.”
McCleary also had two steals showing off some speed for this big man.
“Coach was giving me the sign to get a big lead and that usually means he wants me to try to steal,” McCleary said with clarity. “Hopefully our hitting will carry on in our game with Boerne.”
Canyon Lake will have another chance to play a team that had their games postponed last Monday due to the rain storm.
Good Luck Hawks!!
