Canyon Lake only had one inning that was not good, but that is all it took for

Fredericksburg to take control of the final in a disappointing loss, 8-5 last Friday.

The Hawks was in control with a 4 run lead going into the fifth inning and that was when the proverbial dam broke and the Billies responded with 7 of their 11 hits in the game pulling a way with a 7-4 lead.

Of those 7 hits, 4 were doubles and Canyon Lake would not be able to rally for a win for this early start, where the Varsity was playing before the usual JV game.

CL had been shut out a day earlier and right off the bat (pardon the pun), Carly DuBois had a first pitch single that bounced over the pitchers head into centerfield.

Kirsten Jones was able to get a ground out to advance Dubois to second on the next at bat.

Alexis Robinson was able to force a walk that put two runners on for Brianna Young’s rbi single, and before you knew it CL enjoyed an early one run lead.

The second inning had the bottom of the line up responding when Tiare Kacir was hit by a pitch and Lizzy Henderson laid down a perfect bunt between the third baseman and pitcher for an infield hit.

Sam York sacrificed those two runners another base for a fielders choice rbi with Dubois and an error off the bat of Jones resulting in a 3-0 lead after two innings.

Canyon Lake was able to scratch another run in the fourth when Jones and Robinson both singled and Young came through with an rbi double.

After that score, Robinson retired the Billies in order on just nine pitches and Canyon Lake could feel good about responding to a tough game less than 24 hours earlier.

Dubois sent a hard hit into the corner and with speed to burn was standing on third with her second triple of the year, but the final inning had no threat and now CL finds themselves with their back against the wall in need of a good week when Bandera and Wimberley become next on their docket.

Robinson had a good game except for that one inning and it just became too much to overcome.

Robinson also reached base 3 our of her 4 appearances as pitchers are not giving her anything to hit after she started such a torrid pace with her stick as she still has a 1.000 slugging average in district play.

Canyon Lake is still in the hunt for a playoff spot as the new rule of having 4 teams qualify makes that a reality.

But time is still running out as this Hawk team will need to turn some tables and get some wins.

Good Luck!!
