Coaches Corner: Bracken’s Lloyd Fields
Coaches Corner with Bracken’s Head Coach Lloyd Fields
The ReSporter: Well Coach you will be playing your first scrimmage tomorrow and so what would be your
thoughts going into this game?
Coach Fields: “Mystery, I have no idea of where this team is because of not having enough players to go full tilt. That causes us to be more careful for practice because we cannot afford any injuries.
In 2009 we had some mystery because we graduated a bus load of players. This year we are replacing five seniors from last year’s squad and of those five players four of them went both ways.”
The ReSporter: How many players will be suited up?
Coach Fields: “We have 11 players and two of those students will be limited tomorrow. In the last two years we have had 13 and 11 players and eight of those were starters. We will need to develop some young guys to give us depth.”
The ReSporter: What are some goals for your scrimmage?
Coach Fields: “Well, number one we need to stay healthy. I also hope to get some reps for our starters in game like conditions. I will also be looking to see how many of the young players might be ready for prime time.”
The ReSporter: What has been your overall assessment from your two weeks of practice?
Coach Fields: “I’m happy with how the young guys have looked, they just need some experience. We are not in tip-top shape yet and we will find out if we run out of gas in our scrimmage. If we do, then I will know what we will be working on next week.”
The ReSporter: Tell us some more about what you have seen with this group?
Coach Fields: “They have brought a very good work ethic to each practice. We don’t have a lot of leaders with words, but we do have several that talk with their actions.”
The ReSporter: Any players we need to watch?
Coach Fields: “Brady (Beene) will be our starter at Quarterback and Jeff (Camp) will be our back-up and we will be getting some work for both of them. I would be glad to see Brady run and execute the offense and if he plays anywhere near the way he has practiced then he should do fine.
(Joshua) Chu will put on pads for the first time tomorrow, so that will be a whole new world for Mr. Chu. He is quick but that is really all we know, since he has not been hit or hit anybody yet. He will be playing X-Backer because of his quickness.”
The ReSporter: Who will be in this scrimmage?
Coach Fields: “We will be playing in Prairie Lee and San Marcos Home School will be there too, but that is about all I know right now.
This will be the first time for starters to get tackled and to tackle someone in a game like situation and so just seeing how they respond and finding out how many young kids can play the game.”
The ReSporter: Thanks Coach, we will get with you after the game and have a report this weekend. Good Luck and stay healthy.
