Hawk’s bring Butter Knife to Steak House in Loss to Blanco, 35-7
Canyon Lake had a rough time in Blanco Friday night as the Panthers spanked the Hawks into submission by controlling every facet of the game in a resounding 35-7 win.
“They beat us physically,” Head Coach Charles Drum said. “We had played two spread teams in our scrimmages and we met a team that was just more physical than us.”
The Hawks went to Blanco to eat steak but only brought their butter knife, as this game showed that they will need to sharpen their weapons.
“I’m disappointed,” Coach Drum finished. “But this is a long season and we proved last year that we can come back.”
This game had not been decided by more than 7 points in the last five years, but Blanco was so dominant in this win that Canyon Lake did not move the first down chains until there was 6 minutes left before halftime.
That drive just had four plays more than the previous times with the ball before CL turned the ball over after coming up short on a 4th down try.
CL had one more drive that encompassed more than four plays for the entire night and that drive was late in the fourth quarter when the Hawks used the pass to open their offense for an 84 yard drive and scoring with 7 minutes left on the game clock.
A nifty 40 yard pass play from Skyler Tschoepe to Evan Schuller down the right sideline. Canyon Lake completed two passes on the drive covering 49 yards accounting for more than half of this drives yardage.
Canyon Lake’s offense had 74 yards on all their other drives combined for an anemic 1.7 yards per play. Nine drives with just three plays and a punt and two drives with more than four plays.
The Hawks could not establish anything on the ground as Blanco had eight and nine players ready for a run and that helped in snuffing out any resemblance of an offense.
This was the second year of futileness for the Slot-T offense against Blanco. Last year, CL had 155 yards rushing and on this night the Hawks could not break the century mark.
Canyon Lake’s defense had a decent game for three quarters until the Panthers finally played without turning the ball over and scoring 21 points in their final quarter.
Three recovered fumbles for the Hawks and three sacks from defensive end Robert Woods would help keep this game within striking distance through the first three stanza’s.
CL could not take advantage of those mistakes and would only accomplish taking some time off the clock and needing some miracles to stage a chance for a win.
Now the Hawks will need to sharpen their knifes to have a chance next week or maybe find shooting weapon so their next meal might not be as tough.
