CLJV Volleyball Beat Navarro Panthers, 25-20 and 25-21
Canyon Lake’s JV and Freshman teams both swept the Navarro Panthers on Tuesday night as both teams find themselves undefeated in District 26-4A play.
“Nothing was easy in this game,” Head JV Coach Megan Helmey started. “Navarro has a scrappy team….after our tournament in the Hays Tournament we have jelled as a team.”
In the JV game, the Hawks, finally got the upper hand in their first game when they scored the last seven points to win, 25-20.
The game started with a CL run and, 4-0 lead only to see this Panther team storm back and take control of the middle part of this contest.
Canyon Lake JV found themselves down as many as four points, 17-13 before their onslaught would be unleashed.
The difference with between a year that started slow, has now started to blossom into one of the best JV teams to play at Canyon Lake.
Every player has stepped up their game as each game continues to see great improvement.
One example would be Felicity Niestemski, who has seemed to get her confidence on the court going.
In fact, during the beginning of this season to now, ‘Felitown’ has grown into ‘Felicity’ as she has shown great play at the net.
“She (Felicity) has become one of our top hitters,” Coach Helmey stated.
“I am feeling more comfortable and I have more confidence,” Niestemski said. “We keep working hard in practice and we are starting to trust in each other more.”
Niestemski has a presence now on the court and comparing her play from the beginning of the season to now is apparent that her knee brace is just that….a brace and not a detriment.
Dana Buhr is another player that is playing with a certain, ‘we will get it done’ attitude as this JV team continues to pile up victories.
Buhr served 19 times in their game with Gonzales last week and that showed some concern on how her shoulder was holding up.
“I have been going to the trainer, but I will not let that stop me from playing…I would rather go for it than sit,” Buhr said coldly. “We have been playing together since the seventh grade and we know how each other play.”
CLJV started the second game with another run, this time enjoying a 12-2 advantage.
That prosperity was reeled back in by this Panther team, as CL needed to stave off Navarro for their eventual 25-21 win.
Each Canyon Lake team brought their broom to the gym on this night as sweeping was the rage, from Freshman to Varsity and all those JV player between, the Hawks Soared!!
Congrats and Go Hawks!!
