MV 8th ‘A’ Hawks Groundhog Lampasas, 32-6

Lampasas 8th A squad thought that they would just fumble instead of punting in their game with Mountain Valley, as the Hawks finished off this Badger team, 32-6 last Thursday night.

Mountain Valley, still feeling the sting from a loss to Wimberley in their previous outing, would take no prisoners as they marched 62 yards on 7 plays when Jacob Ruff finished the first drive from three yards out.

“We weren’t quite ready from our conditioning (from last week’s Texans game),” Head Coach Brandon Pawelek said. “But we did have a better week of practice.”

“Thinking about that loss last week fueled our win today,” Jacob Ruff would surmise.

The Badgers first two drives were stopped by losing the ball via the fumble. Starting on their 24 yard line, the Badgers, marched off 24 yards with the help of a face mask penalty and then fumbled after a 10 yard gain that would have given Lampasas the ball on their 38 yard line with a new set of downs.

Lampasas would, groundhog day their next drive, with another fumble after driving to MV’s 17 yard line.

The Hawks would, groundhog day it right back, with another drive for 81 yards four different players taking the rock and one player from a forward pass giving a little, change up, to boot.

Just to be sure their might be some math students out there, 5 yards was awarded to MV by an off-sides penalty.

The Badgers did have success on their third drive going 45 yards, with a major portion of that yardage coming from a 35 yard pass play.

Mountain Valley would lead at half, 16-8.

The Hawks offense would have a chance first, for the second half, with another impressive drive for 36 yards on five plays and a Ruff 14 yard run, increasing their lead, 24-6.

Two guesses on what happened for Lampasas next session with the ball? If you guessed a fumble, then you are a groundhog specialist and you can now change your name to Punxsy Phil. (The Groundhog’s name)

Yep, seven plays and a lost fumble, where the Hawks would take over on their 32 yard line.

The Hawk defense was intent on keeping this game in check being led by Jacob Ruff who seems to dish out pain to whoever was carrying the ball from his linebacker position.

“We have another win under our belt and we will play better next week,” Ruff said smoothly.

With the help of an efficient offense, Mountain Valley would, Punxsy Phil, right back at the Badgers with another drive when Trenton Lorett would have the honors of a two yard run for a commanding lead, 32-6.

On how well his offensive line played, Ruff complimented, “We had great blocking up the field, which gave us plenty of room to run.”

That was apparent with four drives and four scores for this first team offensive unit.

“They were big, but we knew we could take it to them right away,” Offensive Lineman Austin Rodriguez said. “We were still too tough for their fast defense and that made them easy to block.”

On what this win does for this season, “This will give us a lot of confidence and we still have that chip on our shoulder from the Wimberley game.”

MV could of named the score for this game but decided that 32 points would be enough to subdue this Groundhog team.

The weather report looks like seven more weeks of rough weather on Thursday’s for Mountain Valley Hawks Football team.
