Canyon Lake’s Volleyball team took care of business against Gonzales winning, 25-13, 25-15, 25-20.

The win clinches a playoff spot for the Hawks as they are now guaranteed a winning District 26-4A record and if CL lost their remaining four district games they would still have a better record than Cuero, Yoakum, and Gonzales.

This win was the 27th for the Hawks as they keep flying away from their previous 25 win season back in 2009.

CL scored a 10-3 run as the first game got started with the Hawks running this set to a 12 point lead.

Bailey Drum led the Hawks with six kills in that first set and six other Hawks also got in on the scoring for a run-a-way, 25-13 win.

Addison Farley duplicated that same number of kills when she had six kills in the second set and playing a pivotal role in another win by more than 10 points, 25-15.

Farley finished with 15 kills and with Drum’s 16 kills, the Hawks had a good one-two punch.

“Usually, when we change up our lineups we struggle,” Farley deduced. “But talking more and playing as a team showed that we were ready from point one!”

On what type of competition she has with Drum for having the most kills in a game, “Competition always makes you better,” Farley finished.

Canyon Lake had four other players with three kills a piece as they not only took care of business, but the Hawks also took inventory as they prepared for a tough game this Friday in Navarro.

Mariah Ellis who is one of the top servers in the area added to that total on the night when she finished with three aces. Ellis also played more than one position as Head Coach Kimberley Paisley was playing her team like a Chess Match this whole evening.

“We are playing well as a team,” Senior Ellis said confidently. “We are staying positive and together….when we play an easier team we sometimes fall apart and play down to their level.”

On playing Libero in tonight’s game, “It is always good to play another position, as it will prepare us for times if something happens to other players.”

Canyon Lake will now have an important game with Navarro, as the Panthers certainly will want to even the score as the Hawks have already won two games over this team.

Another Business in town and the Hawks will need to take care of this competition too!!
