MV Hawks 8B Team just misses Win in LH game, 8-0

Mountain Valley 8B team lost game with two minutes left in their game after squandering several scoring opportunities, 8-0

Two great opportunities for scores went awry on this Hawk team as the defense played a excellent game with another chance for redemption next week.

MV will travel to Liberty Hill for another chance to make things right blowing some good drives just short of the goal line.

Drive Plays YL Started YL Ended
 #2 12 Hawks 42 Panthers 18
 #3 8 Panthers 26 Panthers 2
 #4 13 Hawks 20 Panthers 7

Three good chances that did not pan out and knowing that two would of won this game will be a sore spot until these two teams meet next week.

Mountain Valley dominated the first half in this game only allowing 20 yards of offense for Liberty Hill and zero first downs was something not seen very often.

Liberty Hill only had the ball for three minutes in this game in that half and the accolades would be abundant for a team that could control a game in this manner.

Two plays that stuck out in this game was made by each team.

Mountain Valley had the first one on that third drive they stalled on the Panther 7 yard line.

Running Back Wyatt Meckel made the corner and a sealing block from Cade Dunavant helped Meckel tight rope the sideline down to the 14 yard line.

That 30 yard run was so close to a touchdown at Meckel just touched the line which blew the play dead.

“I had to go out and get the corner on that play,” Dunavant recalled. “Often I block and go up and get the next guy, but I just became the lead block for him (Meckel).”

On Liberty Hills one play Dunavant was on defense and just missed a tackle as he too was getting blocked as their runner scooted by for his 31 yard run.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, that was the drive the Panthers scored the only touchdown of the game.

Dunavant did lead the rushers with 63 yards on the ground and after missing his 40 yard touchdown run last week, The ReSporter wanted to be sure he was mentioned in this game.

“We just need to get to where we need to be and know the plays,” Dunavant said while recalling the penalty at the 2 yard line that he scored on but was called back. “If our lineman stay low and knock them off the ball then all we (the runners) have to do is hit the holes.”

On what happens next week, “We are using what we learned from this game and take care of the ball.”

Mountain Valley 8th B team is still within striking distance of winning district, or you could say just 2 yards.

Make ’em count next week and Go Hawks!!
