Shock and Awe, Hawks Lose, 3-0 to Texans
The 20th ranked Canyon Lake Volleyball team could not stop an avalanche of Texans coming down the mountain as they were stampeded into submission to the #6 Ranked Wimberley team in Texas based on the Texas Girls Coaches Association Poll.
This match was over after the first serve as Wimberley was leaving no question to who the #1 team in District 26-4A would be after this evening’s game.
A resounding three game sweep where the first two pivotal games CL was only able to score 14 and 13 points.
Wimberley did not allow Canyon Lake two points on serve but one time and that was way after this match had been decided in the third game while the Texans were holding a 22-14 edge.
Discombobulated would be a word to describe this Hawk team as they continued to slip on this night when the Hawk Gym was full of fans from both towns.
That drive over the Devil’s Backbone apparently worked for this Texan team as they displayed a big backbone in taking care of Canyon Lake.
“We did not communicate, we had no fight, and we were not ready for this district match,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said. “We will learn from this, move on and redirect our focus on La Vernia.”
In those three games, by the time Canyon Lake had hit double figures in points, Wimberley had accumulated, 19, 17 and 18 points respectfully.
Canyon Lake will now have a game in La Vernia this Friday as they try to get their wheels back on track for the second round of district games.
The Hawks had not lost a game since August 29th (Blanco) and missing by one game having an undefeated September.
A 10 game winning streak was a good indication on what this season might bring, but it is plain after Tuesday’s game, that Wimberley is alone at top with the rest of District 26-4A trying to divvy up those other three playoff spots.
The Hawk crowd was the largest seen at a CL Volleyball game and hopefully this team can get some momentum and continue the second half of district play in grand fashion.
“We still have the second round to play,” Coach Paisley closed. “We still have two goals, Co-District Champs or 2nd Place in district and making the playoffs…We would get a Gold Ball for our trophy case with a District Championship and a Gold Ball for each round of playoffs we advance, for the trophy case…..We Want Gold Balls!!!”
That would be a good Shock and Awe for a team that is working on starting their own tradition.
