=======================================

Well, it is finally official, Canyon Lake will be playing in their first playoff game in four years as they will be in a battle with Taylor this Tuesday night.

The Hawks played a game last Friday night with Thrall and won that match three sets to zero.

The sets were all close as Thrall is ranked 3rd in the State for 2A schools, 25-20, 25-23, and 25-22.

That same school had won earlier this season at one of the Hawk’s tournament games and so getting back with that school should be able to help with that all important confidence factor.

The win also allowed CL to hit the 30 win total for this season which is now five more wins than the 2009 team pulled off five years ago.

Wimberley once again proved to be too much for their counterparts as they finished a full three games ahead of the pack as Cuero was also able to hold off La Vernia by one game after the Hawk win over the Bears last Tuesday.

Navarro is on the same bracket with Canyon Lake and that would be a good game if both teams can get by their other hurdles.

Canyon Lake beat Taylor earlier this season in their Cedar Creek Tournament, 25-15, 25-15, and 25-15.

Regan Mickey had 31 assists and 17 digs in that outing to pace the Hawks while Bailey Drum led the team with 19 kills.

The ReSporter was able to get with Head Coach Kimberley Paisley for a Coaches Corner.

The ReSporter: Hey Coach congratulations on your win last Friday and also finishing second in the district. What can you tell us about the Taylor game this Tuesday?

Coach Paisley: “They have some good athletes and they work very hard and are competitive.”

The ReSporter: How do you approach this game given that you have a 3-0 win over them earlier this year?

Coach Paisley: “I always remind the girls to respect game of volleyball and now we have the opportunity to play in the playoffs and not to take any of our opponents lightly.”

The ReSporter: You played a good team last Friday and won in three, what does that do for your team?

Coach Paisley: “I’m really glad we played that game because it will help keep us sharp and we also owed Thrall for our earlier loss to them….all the games were close and we needed those type of games.”

The ReSporter: I’m also thinking by playing a team before the playoffs helps your team have another opportunity to play and have more opportunities to get that momentum going.

Coach Paisley: “Yes, in our last match with La Vernia and then the game before Wimberley we played well and even in the Wimberley game we were much more competitive….ever since the Navarro game we have played better and a game like this helps keep our confidence and focus up.”

The ReSporter: What do you think about the bracket you will be in for the UIL Tournament?

Coach Paisley: “If we can win, then we will play the winner of the Sealy and Stafford game. Sealy won their district and Stafford was fourth so we might play Sealy….they have some good athletes and they just build and grow them….it will be a competitive match-up.”

The ReSporter: When would you play (IF) you won your game on Tuesday?

Coach Paisley: “We have a three dates we can play the game….Thursday-Friday-and Saturday. I would rather play on Saturday because of Football drawing many of our fans and I would rather have more days to prepare and a Thursday game is not one of my favorite times to play.”

The ReSporter: How is the health of the club going and any other tidbits about the team going into this week’s game?

Coach Paisley: “Lillie (Sander) had a good practice on Saturday and hopefully we will have her back. (Sander had her injury in the Cuero game two weeks ago) We had a lot of girls who stepped up in taking Lillie’s place. Alexis (Robinson) had La Vernia’s big girl’s number in that game.”

The ReSporter: Are you excited about the game this week?

Coach Paisley: “Very much so…I’m ready to play Tuesday and their will be no ‘Duck Dynasty’ when we go play them.”

The ReSporter: Thanks Coach, why don’t you just make them a Lame Duck…
