Mountain Valley 7th and 8th Grade Football teams completed their seasons with District Championships as the Greyhounds could only place in a ‘Dog Run’.

The MVMS 8th Grade started where they left off in their previous match-up with Boerne by applying that suffocating defense while the offense just ran up and down the field like they were Greyhounds.

The ReSporter had too many games on it’s plate on Thursday as the CL Volleyball Playoff game against Sealy took precedence on coverage.

However the following two articles were penned by Coaches Juan Lopez and Brandon Pawelek. Thanks Coaches for helping The ReSporter with these write-ups.

Seventh Grade ‘A’ Team:

Mountain Valley had an opening drive that lasted only three plays.

Nicolas Rivera ran for a 70 yard touchdown down the right sideline and Ethan Slater caught the extra point pass from Kyle Yuil giving the Hawks a 8-0 lead.

On MV’s next possession the team marched down the field putting together a 60 yard drive that ended with Kyle Yuil scoring the 1yd TD on a quarterback sneak, while Daniel Neel ran in the ensuring 2pt play for a, 16-0 score.

In the second half MV again put together a long drive highlighted by a 4th and 10 play where Kyle Yuil passed to Cody Kline for a 20 yard completion and first down to keep the drive alive.

Ethan Slater capped off the scoring with a 7 yard run and a comfortable, 20-0 lead.

Mountain Valley was kind to the Greyhounds as they had the ball one last time and could have scored again from the 1 yard line, but elected to let the clock to run out.

Final score was 22-6. MVMS outclassed and outplayed the Greyhounds in a tough physical game.

Defensively:

Boerne’s only score came on a series of mental errors by Mountain Valley.

The Hawks gave Boerne 30 yards in penalties to give the Greyhounds a short field to work with.

For the season, in 9 games, our opponents scored a total of just 34 points. TOTAL!

For the season MV’s offense scored 234 points.

The coaching staff is proud of these young men going 8-1 on the season and being DISTRICT CHAMPS!!!

Eighth Grade ‘A’ Team Report: Hawks 40 Boerne 00

Offense:

Mountain Valley had an opening drive of around 70 yards in 10 plays.  Trenton Lorett finished this first drive off with a 7 yard TD run.

On MV’s next possession Tristan Chacon broke a 70 yard TD run.

The possession after that Jacob Ruff broke an 80 yard TD run which gave the halftime score at, 20.0

On the Hawk’s first possession of the 2nd half Jacob Ruff broke another long TD run around 60 yards and quickly added to this carnage.

When the Hawks got the ball back, Connor Rose and Landry Moore got into the action with Rose carrying the ball twice for a 35 total yards and then Landry Moore punched it in from 1 yard out.

On the last possession of the game and Middle School career, Mountain Valley featured Cooper Harris with a 2 yard TD run.

The offensive line once again dominated and it did not matter who the running back would be…the same result was the same with chunks of yards being gained.

“I believe we went over 400 yards on the ground and went 3 of 4 throwing the ball for about 60 yards,” Head Coach Brandon Pawelek said. “I am pretty sure Jacob Ruff was over 200 yards by himself.”

Defense:

Mountain Valley shut Boerne out and didn’t let them have much hope.

Zane Fullen had an interception and the Hawks had some big hits from Jacob Ruff and Tristan Chacon.

Can’t tell you how many yards they had but it was probably less than 50.

DISTRICT CHAMPS!!
