Sealing blocks paves the way for Robert Woods

Pre/Game:            Bandera                @       Canyon Lake           October 17, 2014      7:30pm
                        Bulldogs (3-2)                Hawks (2-4)

History: CL Hawks have a 4-0 record with Bandera.
 2010 Hawks 35 Bandera 06
 2011 Hawks 55 Bandera 33
 2012 Hawks 42 Bandera 07
 2013 Hawks 27 Bandera 06

 This Year's Game Results:
Hawks 07 Blanco 35 Bandera 21 SA Sam Houston 15
 Hawks 43 Smithville 14 Bandera 40 Ingram Moore 07
 Hawks 38 Marion 06 Bandera 00 SA Christian 28
 Hawks 27 Wimberley 28 Bandera 28 Comfort 22
 Hawks 14 Lampasas 21 Bandera 14 Fredericksburg 21
 Hawks 14 Liberty Hill 19

There are not many teams that Canyon Lake can claim they have scoreboard in all of their games with.

Bandera is, at the moment, one of those teams as your Hawks have scored the most points and also have held Bandera to their best defensive output twice, allowing 6 points in two games.

Only one year did this Bulldog team have a break out with their offense and ironically it was a campaign that Canyon Lake still has flashbacks on how close they were to the playoffs.

The Hawks were just trying to score and get as many players on the field as they could.

Players to watch for Bandera? The ReSporter feels that Noah Nelson has been playing for the Bulldogs for the last 10 years.

This young man has had a very good year in the receiving department with 15 catches for 250 yards. Add four touchdowns and a 17 yard average per catch will give the Hawks defensive backs some much needed business.

CL has faced a running team these past two games and now will be a chance for this unit to step it up.

Another receiver with some impressive numbers is Averie Mansfield with just seven receptions but his 175 yards and 25 yards per catch average will certainly get some attention also.

Alex Willoughby-Gonzales is the Bulldogs leading rusher with 279 yards and over five yards per carry and this player will also come out of the backfield as he has six caught passes and has accounted for 52 yards.

Landon Ventura is another player The ReSporter thinks has been going to school way too long as he will also be a featured back with 61 carries this year and only trailing by 28 yards of being their leading rusher.

Joe Rodriquez is the play caller for Bandera, who has completed 58% of his passes and has 663 yards through the air with eight touchdowns.

Rodriguez does have 50 yards rushing so he could do some damage if he needs to escape trouble in the backfield.

Defensively, Bandera has been up and down as their competition has not been teams to strike fear in a team.

Fredericksburg had a good rushing game against Bandera and that could be good news for Canyon Lake since, ready for this….the Hawks like to run.

Canyon Lake has also shown they also can pass and QB Skyler Tschoepe has been making those passes count when needed.

A running team that can make noise passing will give a defensive coordinator nightmares.

Canyon Lake will try to induce some nightmares on these ‘Dogs and see if they can get them to bark while they are sleeping as they hope in trying to catch one of those many Hawk runners.

Go Hawks!!

Freshman Christian DeLeon ready for taking action against Castle Hills

The ReSporter: You have another top team coming to Bracken this Friday.

Coach Fields: “Yeah, they are the defending State Champion and we have everything to gain and nothing to lose….we just need to go and play football.”

The ReSporter: Facing Austin Veritas and Castle Hills gives you a perspective on two of the premier teams in your division…

Coach Fields: “I would pay to see the game between those two school’s game. I would say that Veritas just has more weapons….Castle Hills is very talented but their supporting cast is just not as strong as what I have seen in the Veritas team.”

The ReSporter: So, tell us what Bracken will need to do in the game Friday night with Castle Hills?

The ReSporter: Congrats on your game tonight…here are some questions for our next Coaches Corner.

Coach Paisley: “Thank you!!!! It was a fun match!!! We needed this match. Everyone got to play, everyone played well and stayed at our level…even with the change up in liberos and lineups!!! We were strong last night.”

The ReSporter: Navarro game will be a playoff game atmosphere for your group this Friday. What are you wanting to see in your team as they take the Panthers on?

Coach Paisley: “I expect us to come out strong and ready to play. We need to remind Navarro that WE are in second place and will remain undefeated against them this season!!!”

The ReSporter: How would you assess this team as you have seen them from their first game with Schertz to the Gonzales game?

Coach Paisley: “This varsity group has stayed thirsty from the beginning of season and until this point. We need to continue and carry this thirst into the playoffs. I always say we start strong, stay strong, and will finish strong!”

Hawks Take care of Business in Win over Gonzales, 25-13, 25-15, 25-20

Two Blocks are better than one in win over Yoakum

Two Blocks are better than one in win over Yoakum

Canyon Lake’s Volleyball team took care of business against Gonzales winning, 25-13, 25-15, 25-20.

The win clinches a playoff spot for the Hawks as they are now guaranteed a winning District 26-4A record and if CL lost their remaining four district games they would still have a better record than Cuero, Yoakum, and Gonzales.

This win was the 27th for the Hawks as they keep flying away from their previous 25 win season back in 2009.

CL scored a 10-3 run as the first game got started with the Hawks running this set to a 12 point lead.

Bailey Drum led the Hawks with six kills in that first set and six other Hawks also got in on the scoring for a run-a-way, 25-13 win.

Addison Farley duplicated that same number of kills when she had six kills in the second set and playing a pivotal role in another win by more than 10 points, 25-15.

Farley finished with 15 kills and with Drum’s 16 kills, the Hawks had a good one-two punch.

“Usually, when we change up our lineups we struggle,” Farley deduced. “But talking more and playing as a team showed that we were ready from point one!”

Warriors Scores Quick in Win over Wildcats, 51-0

Bracken Christian was in and out of New Braunfels Wildcats so fast that Coach Lloyd Fields made sure that he could get through another week without injuries in the Warriors, 51-0 mercy game against the Cats.

“No starters got injured,” Coach Fields said short and sweet. “This win helped get us to the five wins in the season threshold.”

Freshman receiver Christian De Leon had three touchdowns to go with his four receptions setting a Warrior record for number of TD’s by taking the ball in the air.

The ReSporter could not go back to those first two years of Bracken games, but since that time there has not been a receiver to break what was two TD receptions by several players.

Noah Boriack also had two interception returns for scores which is also a Warrior record and those scores also helped Bracken Christian to get out of town even quicker to avoid a chance for injuries.

Fourteen plays from scrimmage and six touchdowns will give a team a percentage you can have a good night’s rest with.

There were a few touchdowns called back by penalty which would have made that an even higher percentage.

New Braunfels Christian is another team without enough players to give this Cat team the depth needed to spell some players. New Braunfels was a predominantly freshman team lacking in any depth.

That is becoming a similar situation for Bracken and the reason for needing to protect their players.

Making it to the end of the season in tact will indicate how Bracken will be able to play during the playoff season.

The Warriors scored on their very first run when Boriack took the pitch from quarterback Jeff Camp for 50 yards and a quick, 7-0 lead.

Camp was playing quarterback for the first time this season replacing an injured Brady Beene.

Boriack helped Warriors get to 45 points as fast as ‘Usain Bolt’ can use ‘Lightning’, when he intercepted the Wildcats pass on their third play from scrimmage, going untouched for another touchdown before the first minute had gone off the clock.

New Braunfels Christian had their best drive of the night on their next drive when they reached the Warriors’ four yard line before a fumble and squashing any hope of scoring in this contest.

NBC had three first downs in this game and they were all spent on that one drive.

Bracken would take their longest drive of four plays to score when another freshman, Thomas Johnson scored on a 10 yard pass from Boriack.

After an NBC punt, Bracken Christian would squeeze, two more scores, before the end of that first quarter with another Boriack interception return and a pass to De Leon for one of his three touchdown catches.

Joshua Chu (a first year player that is not a freshman) would highlight the next drive with a 24 yard run that helped set up another pass to De Leon for a score and a commanding, 44-0 score.

Coy Zunker who had 12 tackles which is a good percentage based on NBC’s 19 total plays from scrimmage, scored the final touchdown from running 10 yards out and letting Chu finish the wrapping paper on this victory.

Bracken will need to have all hands on deck this coming Friday when Defending TAPPS Division II Champion, San Antonio Castle Hills comes calling to Bracken field.

“Reality will hit us when the State Champions comes next week,” Coach Fields said. “We will need to learn how to finish a game.”

This game will define where Bracken will stand in district as they get ready for that second season.

Important game considering how many players they hope to have when that time of year approaches!!

Go Warriors!!!!

Canyon Lake keeps getting close to a break out game as Liberty Hill just got by in this Hawk game by the skin of their teeth, winning, 19-14.

The Hawks had just scored on a 17 play 75 yard drive when they recovered an on-side kick for another chance to drive a nail into the Panther cage.

With the ball on the Panther 14 yard line a Skyler Tscheope pass to Evan Schuller went just off his hands on the two yard line leaving Canyon Lake empty handed once again with a tough loss.

“We told them this would be the toughest game on our schedule,” Head Coach Charlie Drum said. “We played well in all three phases of this game and we just challenged them and let them know if they played like that then the wins would come.”

Canyon Lake took the first hit when Liberty Hill drove their opening drive for a touchdown.

A missed on-side kick to start the game had this Panther team setting up shop on their 47 yard line. Liberty Hill converted two fourth and one plays and then from the 29 yard line, quarterback Nick Hernandez took a convoy into the end zone, drawing first blood.
