A broken record with the next statement, Skyler Tschoepe (79) finished in 2nd place for his third meet in a row to start this season.

Tschoepe was also helped by Garrett Winters (81) who finished tied for 3rd at Wimberley with Andrew Riali having a respectable 87 on the day.

This Hawk club also saw Cody Simmons score a 97 and Bennie Brownlee finished with a 112 score.

Canyon Lake’s score of 345 also was their best score of the year.

Other teams in Wimberley were the host, Bandera, Navarro, Marion, Randolph, Burnet and Canyon JV.

Canyon Lake will take their Spring Break and return to action in Burnet on March 18th.

The Hawks have one other meet in Fredericksburg on the 26th of this month before their District 27-3A meet on April 7th and 8th.

Hawks Lose First District 27-3A Game to Billies, 7-4

Thursday, March 6th, 2014

Canyon Lake lost a frustrating game to Fredericksburg to open District 27-3A play at the Hawk diamond

Junior Nick Cahill

Junior Nick Cahill

Wednesday night, 7-4.

Frustrating is the best word to describe this outcome as Fredericksburg turned into an opportunistic team to scratch across enough runs to get separation on the Hawks.

“We did not make plays we needed to make,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant started. “Those little plays were made big plays and we did not keep our foot on the gas on offense.”

Cody Powell was throwing a gem going into the fifth inning when an error on a bunt spelled doom and eventually four runs for the Billies.

Craw Fish will Be Boiling May 3rd, Hawks Win

Tuesday, March 4th, 2014

How it all began…

The Hawkscrawfish.com Boil began in 2006 when Cory/Robin Martelli, Deron/Sharon Lestourgeon, Trent Christian, Jemmie/Nicole Rowe, Lori/ Mike Jarrell and Nancy Hartman, suggested a way for friends and relatives to gather for a day of fun and to enjoy a . As the Craw Fish Boil grew, it was decided to ask for donations and to donate the profits to the Canyon Lake Football and Cheer ( CLHYFC) since that organization needed a fundraiser.

Over the years, interest continued to grow, more friends joined in the fun and Crawfish, and a committee was formed to help guide the profitable efforts of the Crawfish Boil. The all-volunteer group has continued to put on this event on every year. Since CLHYFC had attained a regular fundraiser, it was decided that in 2011 the donations gathered would go to MVMS and CLHSABC from this date forward on a 50/50 basis. The Hawscrafishboil.com and along with the CISD and the community, began growing this event to what it is today. To date Hawkscrawfishboil.com has donated over $8500.00 to the youth in the community. Many, many thanks to the volunteers, sponsors, players, and friends and family that come together to make each Crawfishboil a memorable and truly charitable event.

Monday, March 3rd, 2014

Canyon Lake came up on the short end in their game with Hyde Park after a three run rally in the bottom of

the sixth inning losing, 6-5.

The Hawks had forged into a two run lead late in this game to see HP come back and take the win.

Alexis Robinson saw her six game winning streak come to an end with this loss. But in this loss Robinson did not have a walk and that helped keep the game within striking or strikeout distance.

In fact, with her 67 pitches, 51 were strikes.

Bandera is in their second year of rebuilding after losing several Seniors two years ago.

The Bulldogs will open at home against Wimberley who is supporting the second winning record so far during this non-district schedule set of games. Boerne is that other team with more wins than losses.

Canyon Lake will be in Bandera on Tuesday during the Spring Break period.

Coaches Corner with Softball’s John Gallagher

Monday, March 3rd, 2014

The ReSporter: When you have a very quick player to lead off and can get on

Head Softball Coach John Gallagher

Head Softball Coach John Gallagher

with a bunt, why do you bat Robinson first, when she has an opportunity to have players on base more and using her bat to knock then in?

Coach Gallagher: “I look at first, a player that can consistency get on and Alexis Robinson has a high percentage of getting a base hit. When you use a player that bunts well and has speed the defense can read that and play in more. With that player (DuBois) in the two hole you have the ability to slap, bunt, hit, and get that runner over without having to give up an out. It also puts more pressure on the defense not knowing how to play that hitter. Your leadoff hitter after the first at bat usually does not lead off more than once more, and we try to put speed in the 9th spot so she can hit in the bottom of the order. We also try to put contact hitters toward the bottom of the lineup to help with getting on base.”

Corey Shedrock is Safe…..

What a wild week at The Lake.

First off, Girl’s Soccer: The game with Wimberley last Tuesday was a great contest.

With so many ebbs and flows and a final outcome that could not have been scripted in hollywood.

That win has Canyon Lake in the driver’s seat for a chance to make it two years in a row of playing in the playoffs. The Hawks will play this coming Friday against Seguin a team CL beat 7-0 earlier this year.

Another win and one stop closer.

Hawks Beat Blanco in Championship Game, 3-2

Sunday, March 2nd, 2014
Hawks setting the table for a breakout year

Hawks setting the table for a breakout year

Hawks took the title from Blanco in their own backyard when Kat Weber singled in Alexis Robinson in the fifth inning which proved to be enough needed to pull off another milestone for this Canyon Lake club.

Winning a tournament will be another bench mark that can be put on their wall for a team that is on a roll. This game also allowed CL to avenge an earlier loss this year when the Hawks gave up 9 runs in the 5th inning helping Blanco to a 14-11 win.

Robinson pitched another gem in this seven inning battle, giving up one walk and striking out four Panthers.

Robinson also was pretty salty from the batter’s box with a double and triple in this contest.
