Softball Top Three
Monday, February 24th, 2014This Week at Canyon Lake
Sunday, February 23rd, 2014
The Hawks are off and running as this Spring Season has all sports in full gear.
Baseball lead off with some tough competition when the Junior Varsity were on the road in Marble Falls and losing two games. That was not all bad, when the Hawks rebounded in their second game with a two run contest.
This week, CLJV Baseball will be on the road again in Llano with a team in that same classification and hopefully a different result.
Hawk Varsity also started in Marble Falls with four games against some high caliber teams. With each passing game you could see CL start to mature with each bout.
That will be a good thing as this week CL will be playing some more tough competition in the Comal ISD Tournament.
For the next week, ready or not, Canyon Lake starts District 27-3A with a game against Fredericksburg.
Softball also had an up and down week when your Hawks started in Blanco with a loss and then a rebound in Comfort.
This week, Canyon Lake will have their opening game on Tuesday night against Luling. Then on the road again but just for a short distance as the team will start off with three games on Thursday and then back to Blanco for Saturday games.
Soccer is into their district games and the Lady Hawks did win a game that was pivotable for having a chance of making the playoffs. Again this week, a game on Tuesday with Wimberley will be huge in seeing if this Hawk team will be having a chance of continuing there season in a few weeks.
The Hawk’s Boys Soccer team lost a tough game to Seguin, 2-0 which puts pressure for this club beating Wimberley. Last year, Canyon Lake had a big win against the Texans and their game on Tuesday needs to be carried over for another win in order to keep the playoffs in their mirror.
Canyon Lake Track teams started in a very tough Meet in Bastrop last Saturday. The teams in this Meet were all larger than the CL and 10th and 13th place finish for the girls and boys respectfully was not viewed as a bad day.
Christian Dittman was on schedule when he cleared 14’6 and winning that event and now clearing that 15 foot barrier is now a goal for this athlete and continuing a Hawk with a legit chance of going to Regions.
That 14’6 mark beat his personal best of 14’3 cleared last year in the Hawk Relays.
Canyon Lake also had a decent start in Boys Golf and will look to continue their game in Blanco this week.
Skyler Tschoepe shot a 78 that was second best in the Navarro tournament.
The ReSporter will be busy this week as February 28th will also be celebrating the 27th year of marriage to a wonderful life partner.
Thanks for reading.

Hawks Get Closer in Loss to Hutto, 5-4
Saturday, February 22nd, 2014Canyon Lake’s improvement has not shown up on the win column yet, but their last game in the Marble Falls
Tourney gave an indication of what might be in store for this team.
Hutto has a 4A classification and the Hawks rallied from a 4 run deficit to tie the score in the fifth inning before falling in the seventh and a 5-4 loss.
Nick Cahill was perfect from the plate reaching base each time up and knocking in three runs in this contest.
Pitcher Tanner McGill also had a very impressive day allowing only one run in his four innings of work.
In the batter’s box, McGill also reached base both times he appeared.
Hawks Softball has Comfortable Win, 12-5
Saturday, February 22nd, 2014The Hawks got back on the winning track and scurried out for an eight run lead before settling in and beating Comfort, 12-5 last Friday night on the road.
After taking a tough loss to Blanco, Canyon Lake did not take long to forge into a lead that would not be threatened in winning by a seven run margin.
Two things was noticeable that did not happen in Blanco.
CL Hawks Run Out of Time in Loss to Liberty Hill, 7-4
Friday, February 21st, 2014Canyon Lake got within one run before a two run bottom of the sixth when time was called
for the third game of the Marble Falls Tournament, losing to Liberty Hill, 7-4.
“We played much better,” Head Coach Trent Duanavant said. “This actually looked like baseball.”
Coach Dunavant was making a comment based on that double header loss to CL the day before by lopsided scores.
CL Hawks Boys Golf Place 4th in Navarro Tourney
Thursday, February 20th, 2014Canyon Lake finished 4th in their Chaparral Golf Club Navarro Tournament last Wednesday.
“If we can find one more player then we have a chance to be pretty good,” Head Golf Coach Lucas Chapman putted. “We have a few other players, but they did not play due to various circumstances.”
Skyler Tschoepe shot a 78 and finished in second place for individual honors.
Other Hawk scores:
Garrett Winters 87 Andrew Riali 93 Bennie Brownlee 108 Austin Annestrand 131 Total Score 497
Wimberley won with a score of 340 and the other teams finished in this order:
1. Wimberley 340 2. Kenedy 3. Navarro 4. Canyon Lake 366 5. SA Cole 6. Marion 7. Blanco 8. Gonzales
Canyon Lake will tee it up again on February 24th at the Blanco Tournament at Vaaler Creek Golf Course.
Girls Soccer: Hawks Blank Seguin, 7-0
Wednesday, February 19th, 2014Canyon Lake Girls Soccer won a game that keeps them in a playoff hunt with a 7-0 win over

Jen Crownover sponsors Hawk Soccer articles. And is running for Comal County Commissioner Precinct 4
Seguin.
Seguin is not a soccer power but by being in the same district with Canyon Lake a win on the road gives the Hawks a chance of getting into the playoffs if they can take care of business with Wimberley this season.
Christie Fowler had her way with the Matadors with four goals. Fowler was joined with Chloe, Gomez, and Panek who each scored one goal a piece.
Other good points in this win, “Tiffany Laurent had several first half saves and stopped a penalty kick,” Head Coach Erich Robinson said. “Jillian Schley was in her first district appearance and ended the second half with no scores on goal.”
Softball: Hawks Lose to Blanco, 14-11
Wednesday, February 19th, 2014Mom said there would be days like this as Canyon Lake gives up nine runs in the 5th Inning and
lose to Blanco, 14-11.
The Hawks had their top three batters in the line-up score eight runs but that just was not good enough to warrant a win.
Lizzy Henderson came back from a hand injury from last weekends tournament to help in some late rallies with two hits and rbi’s which was an encouraging sign.
Hawks JV lose Two to Marble Falls, 14-2 & 4-2
Tuesday, February 18th, 2014What a difference a game makes, as Canyon Lake improved their game by reducing Marble Falls JV
baseball team to 10 runs less for the second game of a doubleheader opening the Hawks Baseball season Monday night in the Falls.
That first game was over quick when the Mustangs scored in every inning in that first contest.
Problem? The Hawk pitching staff could not find the strike zone.
That resulted in way more base runners for Marble Falls and by adding an error here or there compounded the pounding, 14-2.
Case in point. That first inning had four strikes thrown by CL to six Mustang players and those four strikes resulted in three outs.
Tanner McGill has been Biding His Time
Sunday, February 16th, 2014Biding His Time
Tanner McGill has been seen throughout this school year and with little to show for his presence.
McGill was a transfer this year and yet his paperwork with the UIL has taken until now for getting clearance to play Varsity sports.
“Finally,” McGill said. “I’m happy it is finally over but sad that it took this long…but the wait was worth it. Now I can start work and try to help the baseball team.”
McGill has a Sophomore classification, but in football he would of been the back up quarterback until he was relegated to Junior Varsity this past season.
