Coaches Corner with Bracken’s Coach Lloyd Fields

The ReSporter: Hey Coach, I heard it will be raining this Saturday, who does that favor if anyone?

Head Coach Lloyd Fields

Coach Fields: “Yeah, I heard there might be a 100% chance of rain. I don’t think it will make any difference, the field is turf and so that would make it equal for both teams.”

The ReSporter: You had a tough game last time you faced Austin Veritas…what are your thought about this week’s game?

Coach Fields: “I know that they were excited when they got off the bus for our game and we were coming off a bye week and I just felt like they were a lot more fired up than our team…I just don’t know what their mind set will be when they play us this week.”

The ReSporter: You had a game last week in the first round and you have mentioned in the past how you like to play a game and not take a week off before the playoffs start…

Coaches Corner with Canyon Lake’s Charley Drum

This is certainly a big week for the Hawks and The ReSporter had a chance to catch up with Coach Drum for this week’s edition of the Coaches Corner.

The ReSporter: Can Coach Moses read minds better than his coaching friends from Rockport?

Coach Drum: “Yeah, they will know our offense, but we can be a little more diverse than they are. We kind of have something to compare.”

The ReSporter: Do you know if Rockport-Fulton played a team that runs the slot-t?

Coach Drum: “I don’t think they did.”

The ReSporter: Well, when I think back on last year in our game with Navarro, you could tell that they were just more advanced with this type of offense both defensively and offensively in our game with them.

Fresh(man) Start!

Wednesday, November 19th, 2014

There are two Hawk players that have been playing for Canyon Lake during the last part of the season when Will Joyner joined the team for a game with Smithville and then invited again near the end of this season.

You would see Joyner on kick-off teams and also playing on the defensive side of the ball these past few games.

Meanwhile Senior Ian May went down over two weeks ago and CL had Jacob Foster filling that void on the offensive line.

Both of these players had carved a nice niche with that Freshman Class as that team has been heralded as the calvary to help stave off an indian attack on the local village.

Yes, that village might have been able to hold their own, but having the Calvary joining this fight will make those losses in war to be reduced.

The Hawks are presently 0-2 when facing teams in the second round of playoffs.

Back in 2010, Canyon Lake, was pitted against a Somerset team that had a ton of excitement and experience and in the end it was the Bulldogs that were smiling after a missed field goal when time expired.

During that two game stint in the 2010 playoff season, CL had won their first half in both games by a 52-13 advantage and in that first game with Burnet the Hawks withheld a furious rally to hold on with a Bi-District win, 27-20.

Somerset was let off the hook in that Area matchup when the CL’s Juan Martinez was just short on a 42 yard field goal with no time left on the clock.

Martinez was true on a 40 yard field goal at the end of the first half in that same game which proved to be the Hawk’s last points for that season.

Bracken Christian won their playoff game against a tough and frustrated Conroe Covenant team, 39-8.

“This was the first time we dressed out all of our team,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields said. “There is always safety in numbers.”

Another game with a box of band-aids needed at it’s conclusion.

“The game was pretty physical,” Coach Fields said while fixing an owlee. “We had some bumps and bruises but everyone gets those by this time of year.”

The Warriors stepped out to a quick 19 point lead as Noah Boriack found a target that will be on top of all the receiving marks when this season comes to a close in Jeff Camp for a 24 yard touchdown pass.

CL Hawks after win over Waco LaVega

CL Hawks after win over Waco LaVega

Canyon Lake won their Bi-District game for the third time in a row as the Hawks walked all over the Plank(ton) Pirates of Waco LaVega, 49-26 last Friday night.

“This was our first complete game for this whole season,” Head Coach Charley Drum beat. “We dominated the whole game and it just shows you how a team with seniors versus a team that was lacking with seniors can help with that experience.”

The Hawks have made the playoffs for the fourth time and this was their third time of punching their ticket for the next round.

 Year Game Score Record
 2010 Burnet 27-20 6-5

 2014 Waco LaVega 49-26 5-6

It will be the next game that will make history for Canyon Lake, with a win, they will be realizing a goal of seeing just how high this playoff ladder will take this upstart group of players.

Coaches Corner with Volleyball’s Kimberley Paisley

Friday, November 14th, 2014

The ReSporter: First off you overall thoughts on this past year…

Coach Paisley: “The season started off with goals that we as a team set as soon as the teams were made (during

two-a-days). The goals we discussed were navigated by me because I believed the things we discussed were very attainable for this group of hard working young ladies. I knew we could be co-champs, district champs, or second place in our district. I knew we were making the playoffs and going 2-3 deep in playoffs. I knew school records would be broken. When I hung the “Gold Ball” in their face (which is a trophy that will have their names on it) they were hungry and dead set on attaining these goals.”

The ReSporter: Second, what would you like to say about the Seniors on this past year’s roster?

Coach Paisley: “They were ready to make their last year memorable. They believed in their team and the program and wanted to leave a legacy. They wanted to build tradition.”

The ReSporter: What will be your goals for next year’s team and how will that be realized? (more…)
