CL Hawks Lose Heartbreaker to Navarro, 55-54

Canyon Lake was tied or had the lead for 30:29 in their game with Navarro but could not hold onto the lead as the Panthers scored a three-point shot with 7 seconds on the clock to take a heart breaker from the home team.

The Hawks went into the final stanza enjoying an 11 point advantage but Navarro’s 26 point fourth quarter was just enough to steal a win on Tuesday night at Canyon Lake.

“We did a lot of good things that got us the lead,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman started. “We played good defense and got the ball inside, but we just got tight and timid in the fourth quarter.”

There were several good things happened in this game as CL finished with three players in double figures and many of the other players hustling and finding ways to stay in the lead.

Brandon Ward and Will Gray both finished with 13 and 12 points respectfully with an impressive combined line score.

Sean Nolan continued his inspired playing on the court as he missed just one field goal and had another double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Nolan almost pulled off a triple-double as he just needed 3 more blocks to accomplish a first for Canyon Lake basketball.

Those blocks allowed Nolan to pass Caleb Kreiger in total blocks for the all-time best and now Nolan will have a chance of passing Andrew Riali in total rebounds as he now needs just five more to take that stat category.

CL controlled much of this game as the Hawks had an answer for every run that Navarro threw at them until turnovers spelled their doom in those waning moments at the end of this contest.

“When you have 26 turnovers it is tough to beat anybody,” Coach Chapman said.

Tough to take away nuggets after a loss like this, but the Hawks are certainly playing a great brand of basketball as in year’s past, the Hawks would of had a hard time even being in a contest like this one played out.

The Hawks go on the road this Friday as they play Cuero Gobblers and try to get back on the winning track.

Go Hawks!!
