CL Hawks Lose Two in Navarro
Canyon Lake had a tough night in Navarro on Friday night as both Girls and Boys could not get a much needed win against the Panthers.
The girls game had a return of that nemesis called turnovers, as the Lady Hawks committed 31of those dastardly happenings.
Navarro is the front runner in the District 26-4A race and beating this club was going to be a big hurdle to clear for this young Hawk club.
With this loss, CL is perched in the fourth and final spot in making the playoffs as Cuero, (Canyon Lake’s next opponent) suffered a loss to La Vernia and which are two teams the Hawks still have on their schedule.
Forward Kyndall Drum scored 12 points and pulled down 8 rebounds against the Panthers and Mia Riali also had her best scoring night in the past four games, finishing with 8 points.
Navarro is not a good match up for Canyon Lake this year as their press put too many wrinkles on the Hawks as they were only able to amass 18 points in the first three quarters of play.
Those 18 points were matched by that same number in the fourth quarter giving Canyon Lake their final score of 36 points.
The Hawks have another big game this coming Tuesday as Cuero comes to town as both teams fight for one of the precious playoff spots.

The Hawks could never get their mojo in a loss to Navarro that might be that final nail in the proverbial coffin for Canyon Lake in their district race.
With this loss, CL will need a herculean effort to make that final playoff spot in District 26-4A basketball race as they will need to pull off some upsets in plural form and that would be a tall order for this year’s team.
Speaking of tall orders, Senior Sean Nolan had another double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds in the loss.
For the week, Nolan added up 8 blocks in his two games and continues to add to his Hawk best in rebounds and blocked shots matched up against all Hawk players since they started their first game over 7 years ago.
The three big man in this game had 33 points with a decent stat line as Tyler Williams was perfect on every shot taken and Rory Preiss was just one point from joining Sean Nolan in double digit scoring.

Canyon Lake also made 14 three pointers and were right at the turnover number that Head Coach Luke Chapman has said is a key to having a chance for a win by committing 15 in the loss.
The Hawks had a better percentage of shooting behind the arc which would also be an indicator that a better score would be a result.
Only forcing two steals in the game was one factor, but the Panthers were hot from the floor as this loss will have to be pinned to CL’s defense.
Cuero now comes to town for their next district game and a win is the only remedy that will give this Hawk patient a chance for survival for this year’s campaign.
