Hawks Double Dribble in games with Wimberley

Canyon Lake had a rough night on Tuesday as the Boy’s team got lapped and the Lady Hawks were beat in the last quarter.

The Lady Hawks had a great comeback in their game as they were down 11 points in the second quarter and regained the lead on a last second three pointer from Alexa Ramos to end the third quarter, 36-35 in favor of CL.

Sarah Schneider adds much needed depth to Canyon Lake's inside game.

The game went back and forth to start the fourth quarter as CL had a, 42-41 lead with a little over five minutes to go in the contest.

That is when the Wimberley went on a 12-2 run to end the game with a win.

This loss tied Canyon Lake with Wimberley and Cuero as each team has a 3-2 record with a game each to end the first round of district games.

Canyon Lake has upped their game this year as several players have started playing a much higher game competition wise.

Ramos finished the game in double figures, scoring 11 points for the Hawks.

Other players that have upped their game as this season gets ready for their stretch run in district.

Sarah Schneider would qualify as one of those players for the Hawks.

Schneider gives Coach Mary Beth Gallagher another puzzle piece with height which helps in many facets of the game both defensively and offensively.

“We just have to push through,” Schneider said. “We wanted to get a win and prove to them (Wimberley) that we could play with them.”

On having a great comeback, “We saw were were losing some valuable players with fouls and we just had to step up.”

Canyon Lake can still control their destiny as they continue through district play.

“Stay focused,” Schneider said with laser like ‘Superman’ qualities. “We will push ourselves in practice and the night before the game not let anything else take our attention but the game.”

Canyon Lake will be playing at La Vernia on Friday and a win would certainly help the Hawks in realizing a goal that was last met in 2009….a playoff season.

A better shooting night combined with 17 offensive rebounds will be a good combination as Canyon Lake continues this season.

Reagan Heun finished with 8 points while finishing with 2 assists and 7 rebounds, while Kyndall Drum had double digit rebounds for the second game in a row and who would have thought when Drum was a Sophomore, that she would score 7 points from the free throw line.

Drum had 8 total made free throws that sophomore year on 26 tries.

Alexis Fullen has also been playing a great game coming off the bench with her timing on defense to get blocks is an amazing feat along with scoring 4-6 points and getting 5-7 rebounds per game.

Canyon Lake’s next home game will be January 27th against Gonzales as the girls honor their Parent’s.

The CL Hawks Boys team will now have their back to the wall as winning would be the best option as they go to battle in their next few games.

Wimberley jumped out to a 9 point run to start the game and this contest was over early.

If you have wrinkled clothes then going to a Texan game would be a good thing to do in getting your clothing Pressed, because that press was the undoing for the Hawks.

Turnovers coupled with a bad shooting night is not a good combination for a team when wanting to win a game.

No Hawk had double digit scoring as Skyler Tschoepe finished with 8 points while Garrett Winters, Rory Preiss, and Will Gray each finished with 6 points a piece.

The game was also a low point in rebounding as Canyon Lake was able to grab 25 miscues.

Taking care of the ball and improving their shooting will need to come and visit the Hawks as they travel to La Vernia this Friday.
