Austin Kahil and Josh DeVries Sign to Play in College

Austin Kahil and Josh DeVries signed on the dotted line to play more football last Wednesday at the Hawk Gym.
DeVries will be attending Texas Lutheran and Kahil will be driving up to East Texas Baptist to continue his education.

Both players were integral parts of this past football season where the Hawks made the second round for the second year in a row.
First with some stats for DeVries.
DeVries averaged 9.9 yards per run in the playoffs and finished just behind Zach Henshaw in every other rushing stat. He also finished with 8 games rushing over 100 yards during his career.
DeVries also topped 2000 yards rushing in his last game and finished with 2071 yards for his Hawk career. He averaged a Hawk best of 7.1 yards per carry.
His 1356 yards rushing during the 2014 season was second best only to Henshaw’s 2062 yard season.

DeVries also had 158 total points scored second to Henshaw, but DeVries had two kick-off returns and helped convert 4 two point plays.

That is why The ReSporter wanted to start by showing those offensive stats by DeVries as any running back will always give kudos for that group of players that do the blocking for attaining those numbers made by DeVries and other backs.
The best stat line for Kahil had to be with his introduction to the crowd before signing with ETBU, when Head Coach Charley Drum stated that Kahil was the best lineman he has seen at Canyon Lake.
Pretty high stat line given out by your Coach in showing your worth for a team.
“I wasn’t expecting that,” Kahil said after commenting on what Coach Drum had said in his introduction.
“Having to stay after school and working every day,” Kahil said when commenting on what it took to be at this juncture of his life.
“I visited a lot of schools and I was looking for a community and the Coaches at ETBU reminded me of Canyon Lake. (Coaches)
What do you mean by remembrance? “If you are good, they (coaches) scream at you and if they don’t, then that is when you get nervous….that means they gave up on you.”
“Their Coach came and visited me at my house and he was completely honest and I did not feel any pressure. They were not afraid to share their Faith,” Kahil said reverently.

Waiting to sign as Coach Drum gives the audience accolades of Football and Classroom Victories these two players exemplified
“This all started in wanting it and then developing passion,” DeVries started when commenting on where he is on this day after starting on the ‘B’ squads back at Mountain Valley Middle School.
That certainly was what this young man did as he progressed through his high school career.
“This is finishing out and this was more than I expected,” DeVries continued. “Working on my grades and doing anything it takes.”
DeVries by looking on how he made this signing day a reality has to be a great accomplishment.
“It means to me that you can get an advantage with competition and I just want to help TLU to win it all,” DeVries said when commenting on how good this team has been the past couple of years.
“I will be working this off season and not letting up one second,” DeVries said with conviction.
By listening to these two students, The ReSporter, feels that ‘letting up’ are two words that are not used in describing how things will happen during their College years.
