MVMS Hawks Run out of Innings in Loss, 10-8
Mountain Valley Baseball team made things interesting as their rally just fell short in extra innings losing to Smithson Valley Middle School, 10-8.
This comeback would not have been possible if reliever Cody Daily had not made an appearance in the fourth inning to stop the bleeding.
“Throw strikes and just try to bring my team up and win,” Daily said while answering what his thinking was as he took the mound for those middle innings. “We just are going to get a winning attitude.”
SVMS had forged into a, 7-2 lead as the Rangers had scored in all but one inning as they could start coasting going into those middle innings.
The Hawks decided they had better start a comeback and that was what happened as MVMS had two outs when the improbable started.
The Ranger pitcher had lost the strike zone and Mountain Valley was getting good contact on the ball.
Six runs were scored when the rally was halted with the bases loaded after finally getting a strike out and a tied score, 8-8.
The Hawk dugout was buzzing as each batter willed themselves to reach base safely.
“We made mini megaphones out of our cups to get louder,” Daily said with gusto.
Smithson Valley MS scored their winning runs in the same way MVMS had, after getting two outs.
A walk and double followed and what would be the winning runs were scored.
Mountain Valley could not resurrect the previous inning and fell by just two runs.
A loss, but this game had to be a wake up call for MVMS as they now have evidence that might help them finish this season with some wins.
“I think it just shows, we can win any game and this will be very positive for our team,” Daily closed.
