Hurdles to Clear for the 2015 Football Season
Hurdles for this coming season will need to be cleared in order for Canyon Lake to ascend into a conversation piece for more than just the community.
The ReSporter will delve into 5 hurdles for this season as we continue our countdown before August and the official start to another year of football.
Canyon Lake has not had a consistent game when that first kick-off to start the season is booted.
Even during the Hawks best season, 8-2 in 2011, CL had to overcome a seven point halftime deficit to escape with a hard fought 14-07 game.
There are more hurdles based on that one year of games, but a slow start playing Blanco has been no different than every other game in this series for Canyon Lake.
The Hawks have played Blanco each campaign but have yet to have a convincing win much like the Panthers put to CL last year.
Offensive Game Defensive Game Game 1 Score Yards Rank Yards Rank Comment 2008 00-63 217 55 550 65 First Game Ever 2009 21-14 373 29 226 12 Statement Game 2010 07-12 189 57 340 35 Lost with 0:51 left in game 2011 14-07 306 41 252 16 Blanco 7-0 lead in 1st Half 2012 26-21 351 33 221 11 18 penalties for 107 yards 2013 06-13 215 54 265 19 First Game with new offense 2014 07-35 158 58 325 32 Blanco good, Hawks bad
In the above chart, Canyon Lake has 65 games recorded to give you an idea, The ReSporter does not have several of the games from that first year recorded.
An average offensive score of 11.6 points will not instill fear when that next week’s opponent comes knocking on the door.
Granted Blanco is a formidable team, but based on how well CL has played as the season continues in many of those other years tells you how a 12 point a game average needs to be cleared this season to have that momentum factor for those five non-district games.
The last three years, Canyon Lake’s slow starts have left a big hole to climb from and clearing this hurdle would make the word ‘Potential’ look much brighter.
Canyon Lake had their Junior Varsity team improve and that squad put a hurt on the Panthers last season 27-08, add how much talent is coming up from the freshman team and you can surmise this should be a decent year.
Look at the game stats for last year’s JV game with Blanco and also realize that this same JV team playing as Freshman the year before came out of that season with a tie being a highlight for their sojourn.

This is all to say, coming out of the gate strong, would be a shot in the arm that might make this a special time.
The Coaches would say that each year is different and potential is that pesky word which can only go as far as your dreams with nothing to back it up for the coming contests.
A faster start in the first game would certainly be a great way to start in clearing all the hurdles that will arise throughout the games that will unfold each week.
The ReSporter will continue this series throughout the summer as we have some more hurdles to conquer.
