Pigskin Prep’s Football Rankings
Canyon Lake is busily working each day for their first scrimmage this coming Friday at Hawk Stadium and from all indications the practices are going well.
The Hawks will be a young team this season, but conversely, that younger group of players have a lot of talent or that proverbial word……potential.
The ReSporter had a series of Hurdle articles this Summer and will be bumping them back to the front page as we get closer to the start of the season.
Those slow starts was the first of those series and that next hurdle article will be bumped up today.
There are several publications for high school football, but very few would have rankings for every team within a division. The ReSporter found, Pigskin Prep’s Class 4A D-I site that has ranked all 93 teams.
The ReSporter wanted to share what some prognosticators have predicted for Canyon Lake as well as other teams you might find interesting.
The ReSporter also looked up D-II teams to give you some indication of teams that are on this year’s schedule.
CL Hawks had a ranking of 41 for this campaign which sounds about right based on previous records and years.
That is better than half for the teams compiled and when you break down where the other schools in District 14-4A-I stood then you will see where this district stands in the eyes of others around the state.
Last year Liberty Hill progressed the furtherest, with Canyon Lake also making the second round with a razor thin miss for another chance of meeting the LH Panthers after an overtime loss to Rockport-Fulton in the playoffs.
However, Boerne and Taylor were not as fortunate as both teams lost in the first round giving a couple of black eyes to District 14-4A D-I.
How this year’s district would look based on Pigskin Prep’s Rankings.
District 14-4A D-I
Team State Ranking (93 teams)
Liberty Hill 10
Boerne 39
CL Hawks 41
Taylor 62
Fredericksburg 64
Bandera 76
Other teams in Division I and their ranking.
Team State Ranking Comments
Waco La Vega 15 Beat Pirates 1st Rd a young team last yr.
Gonzales 26 Will be CL's scrimmage Friday at home
Rockport-Fulton 34 Overtime loss in 2nd round last year
Lampasas 68 5th game on schedule at Lampasas
Team D-II Rankings 87 Teams
Wimberley 17 Texans 4th team on schedule at Hawk Nest
Smithville 72 CL will be on the road for this game
Looking at Canyon Lake’s district you have teams bundled up except for LH Panthers who by this prognosticator is ranked higher over the Hawks as CL is ranked over Bandera. Giving you an idea that on any given Friday there could be some surprises if the higher ranked teams are not ready for the opening bell.
Taking the rankings from above would give CL a 7-3 regular season banking on those numbers above played out as stipulated.
Time is drawing near and this week, Canyon Lake will have their hands full welcoming Gonzales to our nest.
Go Hawks and just 16 days before it will be time to put on the pads against Blanco.
