Volleyball: Hawks Sweep Lions
Canyon Lake beat the Lockhart Lions on Tuesday night in a 3 game sweep as they will begin a 3 day NEISD Tournament starting this Thursday.
The Hawks had some good news as the injury to Addison Farley might not be as bad as first thought and an earlier return possible.
CL did take care of business against Lockhart as the Hawks improved their record to 7-2 with the sweep, 25-14, 25-11, and 25-23.
Canyon Lake ended the first game with an 8-2 run with their 11 point win when Hannah Wunderlich finished the Lions off with a kill and serving ace.
That second game finished in much the same way as the first game as the Hawks had just a one point advantage, 7-6, when CL unleashed an 18-5 barrage with only one rotation during the game.
Head Coach Kim Paisley was still trying girls with different line-ups as the third game got a little to close for comfort as Lockhart came back from a 9 point deficit and cut the lead to 22-21 down the stretch.
Canyon Lake’s Wunderlich was the difference maker in that third game as she had 3 kills in those final points to help in getting the win.
Now, the Hawks will have a chance with several games in San Antonio as they play 3 to 4 games per day during the tournament.
“This Tourney will be a good judgement for giving us an idea when we play district,” Head Coach Paisley said. “We will be playing some big dogs.”
CL will start the first day playing, League City, Incarnate Word, and Schertz Clemens and The ReSporter does not know if any of those teams have a mascot name for a dog, but you can deduce that those are some big dogs.
“How we come out and play against these caliber of teams will go a long way in telling us how our team has done as this season has just started,” Coach Paisley continued. “If we can hang in there against these teams, then we should do well in district.”
Canyon Lake was beaten by Clemens to start the season and playing this team again should give Coach an idea of how this year has progressed.
“We owe them,” Coach Paisley threw down the gauntlet.
