BCS Put Underneath Microscope, Lose to Knights, 57-8
Bracken Christian had a wake up call on Friday night as they could not respond the onslaught
of offense and defensive power from Austin Hill Country losing, 57-8.
“Austin Hill Country knocked us in the mouth early and we never made it up to the plate,” Head Coach Hosea Stredic said. “We weren’t firing off of the ball and we were not blocking and when we did block then our running backs were not getting to the hole.”
“We looked like we were lost,” Coach Stredic said looking for an exit.
The Warriors have scored in every game and it has been 20 games since Bracken has not been in double digit scoring in a game. Back in their loss to Boerne Geneva in 2013 season.
Bracken did not go long in the not scoring phase of this game as the Warriors had some trickery as they had Brady Beene running as if he was going to the sideline then snapped the ball as Beene darted down the sideline not being covered.

A perfect pass by Lucas McCrum and Bracken was in business on the Knights 14 yard line when Daniel Forgione had his longest run of the game for a touchdown and a quick, 8-0 lead after Carlos Navarro was good with his kick.
That lead lasted 34 seconds as AHC would give the home town fans an idea of how this game would transpire for the remainder of the evening with a run from 20 yards out and a tied ballgame.
Things started to unravel on the next kick-off as Joshua Chu fumbled the run back in the air and the Knights were in business again and a a score in another 34 seconds and a lead that would never be threatened for the rest of this night.
BCS just could not get any traction as AHC controlled the trenches on both sides of the ball and that would shut down any resemblance of an offense seen the past two weeks into a unit that could only average 4.3 yards per snap and just one more first down for the evening.
Contrast those numbers with AHC having a lofty average of 9 yards per play and 10 yards per run.
Freshman Presley Day’s longest run from scrimmage was 8 yards and in 6-man if you are on, then you will have many plays classified as explosive.
That first pass play was for 46 yards and the next play was a run by Forgione of 14 yards but after that?
A 15 yard pass to Day and the rest of this game was not a pretty sight to see for the home crowd.
The ReSporter would also conjecture the game was not a pretty sight for the Coaches either.
“We got out of sync this week with an off day and a thunderstorm causing us to mess two practices and we just proved that we need more than two practices to prepare for a game,” Coach Stredic calculated. “Little things can change the tone of a game and Austin Hill Country came to the game to play and we just played at a lower level.”
Austin Hill Country would put Bracken our of their misery with an 80 yard kick-off return to start the second half and ending the game with the 45 mercy rule.
Bracken has suffered the mercy rule just eight games and were 4-3 last year leaving the field five times with a win.
The all-time record for mercy games? 43-8 in favor of Bracken out of 110 games played.
Where does Bracken go from here?
A young team can bounce back if they can learn from their previous games whether that contest was a win or loss and Coach Stredic will certainly continue the onward education with a team dominated by Freshman and Sophomores.
Austin Hill Country is in the Division I category and the game did not hinder their district quest.
Bracken has a 40-4 record now when holding a team under 300 total yards, however with the their game not going the full 4 quarters those numbers can be skewed when looked under a microscope.
There is another stat needed to be seen by a microscope being the least amount of offensive yardage ever recorded by a Warrior team (112) the next lowest number was in 2007 when BCS played Tomball Rosehill.
The ReSporter did not start keeping game results until 2009 but that recorded stat was recovered in a sports article when Bracken played that game.
Suffice to say, with such a dismal first season, there is a great chance the Warriors have suffered a more futile offensive outcome.
Bracken will now have their first road trip to San Antonio The Winston for this Friday and a chance to wipe the slate clean in preparation for district play.
“That scrimmage with Austin might have played in the minds of our players,” Coach Stredic closed. “We told them not to let that game influence their thinking on this game but they might not have had right mind set for this game.”
There is certainly not a lot of ornaments to put on this tree, but hopefully when Bracken opens those presents in a few months they might have a microscope as a surprise and they can find a potion that helps in waking up a team in time for their game performance.
