Canyon Lake Freshman keep on rolling as they cleaned up the Tigers on Thursday night winning, 34-0.

Smithville started the game with 14 running plays and taking the script from the Hawk’s playbook in taking the air from the clock.

The Tigers were finally stopped after reaching the CL 13 yard line and that would be all the offense this team would accumulate.

This drive ended with Smithville garnering 48 yards and the Tigers finished the game with 43 total yards.

“We did not have the our minds right and we were not focused,” QB Cooper Harris stated. “We started to be a real football team after the second half started…..we got a pep talk at halftime and Coach said we needed to get our head out.”

The next three quarters was minus yards for Smithville as the Hawks defense would be iron clad.

Smithville gave the ball up with only 1:12 left in the first quarter and CL waiting to get their hands on the ball.

Canyon Lake would run 9 plays, but a lost fumble would put a hiatus on any scoring plans for this stalwart freshman team.

Smithville’s next drive had 3 runs for 4 yards and then Canyon Lake would finally unleash an offense that needed to break a dam.

Cade Dunavant was the catalyst when he had a 37 yard run to start the drive and then two plays later, Trenton Lorett, would finish it off with a 16 yard run and scoring what would prove to be the only touchdown needed for the win.

“I am usually checking out to see where the safeties and corners are,” Dunavant said while describing the his 37 yard jaunt. “We started the game tired and not ready….but it all came together and we all got fired up.”

The Tigers would go backward on their next possession losing 14 yards on this 3 and out possession.

The Hawks would respond with a beautiful catch and run, when Harris found Jacob Neel all alone for a 26 yard touchdown.

Harris had three receivers in the clear on this play and Neel was sure handed for the catch and a one play drive for the score.

On another pass play Harris found Cade Dunavant open for an important first down play.

“It was a pass play all the way and all the receivers were covered and I found Dunavant open and it was just an instant that I saw him and just passed it to him,” Harris said perfectly.

Harris would finish the game perfect with his passes.

“I knew I had to catch it,” Dunavant said with ease. “I tried to go as far as I could so we could get a first.”

The Hawks would then have a two play drive when Triston Chacon would dart around the left end for 45 yards and a 21 point lead with just 19 seconds into the second half.

After another 3 and out possession for Smithville, Canyon Lake would score two more times when they used 21 straight offensive plays to finish the scoring.

Smithville fumbled their kick-off return giving the Hawks two straight possessions and basically had the Tigers with just 3 offensive plays for that whole 4th quarter.

Some good hits were evident as Harris was also seen getting a great tackle on a kick-off return after lighting up the Smithville returner.

“Jordan Burke was wrapping him up and I just came in to clean it up,” Harris said.

Now Harris has some explaining to do when his parent’s ask for some cleaning up around the house.

Impressive game as CL Freshman have scored 82 points while giving up a paltry 6 after the first two contests.
