Hawk’s Block Panthers from staying undefeated in Dist 26-4A play.

Canyon Lake Volleyball swept Navarro on Tuesday night to help in giving this team a lot of firsts.

First, first is that this team is now all alone in first place.

Second, first is now having the longest winning streak in school history with 11.

Third, first is having Freshman, JV, and Varsity with all perfect, 3-0 district records.

“This was a huge win,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said excitedly. “They stayed focused as you could barely hear on the court and we had a good finish and we worked hard.”

‘Point Hawk’ was a dominant chant throughout the game as Hawk fans filled their

side of the stands in making the game feel like a playoff game.

To put it mildly that big finish started in that second set when the Hawks had to come back from a 2 point deficit with 4 straight points and a win, 25-23.

The Varsity Hawks took the lead for the first time in that third set when Sam York had a 4 point serve helping erase a Navarro, 5-4 lead. York finished the match with 5 aces.

Then Senior Hannah Wunderlich matched that service with a 4 point stanza next which helped give the separation needed to win the game and sweep the 12th Ranked Panthers, 25-22, 25-23, and 25-20.

That second set was the back breaker for Navarro as they had a 23-21 lead and York took the serve and with a kill from Regan Mickey and an Ace the Hawks helped CL to come back for a hard fought win.

“If we can manage against a good team then that should help and carry over into our district,” Coach Paisley surmised.

Good team is an understatement as the Panthers has a 27-8 record now and ranked higher than Canyon Lake.

This was the second road win over a ranked opponent as the Hawks tuned up on La Grange before district play started.

“We knew we had to get that second set,” Wunderlich stated as Canyon Lake lost their lead at the 17-18 mark but never fell to the 3 point deficit barrier.

Wunderlich came in specifically to serve in those last two sets and she had been lethal all year in the serving department.

“I just knew I had to perform and there is a lot of pressure,” Wunderlich said in response of coming off the bench for those important rallies. “Yes, a lot of pressure but pressure is what makes it fun.”

Fun is the operative word as Canyon Lake will now meet Cuero this Friday for the first time holding first place all alone to defend their position in District 26-4A play.

That’s a First!!
