CLJV could not Percolate in time in, 20-6 loss to Lampasas
Canyon Lake’s JV team had a rough time in their game with Lampasas as the Hawks could not get going when the Badgers scored the first 20 points and the win, 20-6.
“We haven’t looked that bad all year,” Head JV Coach John Barthels stated. “We did not create, it was Lampasas doing the creating.”
The game started with CL having the ball and losing a fumble on their second snap. CL did not seem in this game as some coffee might have helped on this evening.
Lampasas would methodically march down the field for 50 yards in 10 plays with one 14 yard burst for some added flavor for that Badger first score.
Canyon Lake was stopped one yard short on their next possession and the Badgers finished their next drive much like the first, driving 11 plays this time for 51 yards and a 14-0 lead.
At least the Hawks allowed just one yard per that extra play on that second Lampasas set of downs.
CL did have a little success when they converted a third down and 11 yards needed to keep their next drive alive.
QB Michael Harwell found receiver Caimen McDonough in traffic for 13 yards and the Hawks converted their first-first down of the night late in the second quarter. This drive stalled after an incompletion with a minute left before half-time.
“It is going to be tough when we are in passing situations for a JV team,” Coach Barthels said in response in trying to get something going offensively in this game.
The Hawks were man handled on both sides of the ball having accumulated 27 total yards offensively while allowing 103 yards to their visitors.
CL was successful on an on-side kick to start the second half, but another fumble, this time on their 3rd play pretty much sealed the Hawks fate. Lampasas would respond with another TD and 20-0 lead.
Alas, the Hawks finally had something to hang their hat on when they their best series of the evening on their next possession.
Traveling 74 yards on 14 plays and having running back Braden Duke finding some room on the outside just escaping the grasp of a Badger defensive end while scoring from 16 yards out.
That drive also had a 22 yard pass play, when CL needed 20 yards for a first. Harwell found Anthony Ozuna in traffic helping to keep the drive alive.
Colton McDonald would have a 19 yard run which would come in handy as the Hawks drove the field.
A penalty on an excessive hit would also keep this drive percolating, as that Badger miscue would convert a 4th down for that Duke 16 yard run two plays later.
The drive had many mistakes throughout the drive needing to be overcome in order to stave off a goose egg.
Canyon Lake will now have a week off before they meet up with Liberty Hill on the road in two weeks.
Maybe some coffee might help in getting this team to percolate a little faster in their next contest.
Go Hawks!!
