Bad news? Canyon Lake lost
Over 100 points scored (105 to be exact) as the Hawks were able to stop the Marion Bulldogs on just two possessions.
“They have a good offensive team and they exposed us,” Head Coach Charley Drum stated. “They took advantage of our young guys and we will have to figure out a way to win this type of games when it counts.”
Coach Drum was talking on how the Hawks seem to lose more close games than they win.
For games that are decided by 10 or less points the Hawks have a 13-12 All-Time record in those contests.
Canyon Lake has a 1-7 record in their last 8 games in close encounters the last two years.
“I am proud of how they stayed with it and the way they fought,” Coach Drum continued. “I am disappointed in the loss but not in their effort.”
“We made some strides on offense but we just needed a stop on defense to give us a chance,” Coach said.
On the first possession the Hawks held Marion inside their 5 yard line with an interception on a 4th down play.
On the last possession the Hawks held when the Bulldogs took a knee to run our the clock.
CL had the lead 14 to 6 when the Bulldogs scored in the second quarter to tie the game.
After that the Hawks were playing catch-up with a Bulldog when the Hawks would rather have been flying.
Marion had 242 yards by the pass and run as that has to be one of the best balanced attacks seen for Canyon Lake game in a long time.
A ton of offense as both teams combined for 983 total yards with 49 combined first downs.
The chain gang had to be resuscitated after the game as they could not make it to their dressing room.
Canyon Lake had 3 players that broke the 100 yard rushing plateau for the first time in Hawk history.

“I wish we would have come up with a win,” Sophomore Running Back Tanner Faris started. “I gave it my all and I am exhausted…..We will have to start focusing on our next game and forget about this one, but our offensive line got blocks and they executed in carrying out those blocks tonight.”
Yes, this offensive line has some new faces in the trenches and coming out and performing at this level has to give CL some confidence.
“We have to forget about it,” Junior Running Back Austin Brennan said while commenting on what the team will need to do as they get ready for Wimberley next week. “This week we clicked offensively and we practiced our trap drills and the offensive line opened holes that I could not even fill.”
This was an high octane affair as both teams could not slow down the other team’s offense.
The one mistake that ultimately put the Hawks behind the 8 ball was a returned fumble for a touchdown by the ‘Dogs in the 3rd Quarter that would give Marion a 42-29 lead.
Canyon Lake could not make up that touchdown difference for the rest of the game. (Warning: The ReSporter will not be responsible for those who are suffering from fatigue, you might want to get a Doctors OK in order to read the next lines)

You can also see that the Hawks never did quit in this scoring affair but guessing if the play was a pass or run and adding the speed of these Bulldogs, the Hawk’s defense was over matched.
So where do the Hawks go from here? Wimberley will be coming to town next week sporting an 0-3 record and they will be hungry to get their first win of the season against Canyon Lake.
Meanwhile, in a three game span the offense has been awakened.
1st Game: Offense was shut out in not effective for 2 Halves.
2nd Game: Offense woke up in the Second Half but had started that game with no juice.
3rd Game: Offense was awake for both Halves.
The defense and offense will need to show up at the same time and then the Hawks will have a chance of giving teams more than they can handle.
Go Hawks!!
