MV 7th Grade Hawks can’t Fly in Loss to Badgers, 16-0
The MVMS Hawks came to Lampasas to run down the Badgers but it was the Badgers who took down the Hawks, 16-0.
The Hawks immediately felt the sting of a badger defense on their first possession, as the Hawks moved the ball down field 32 yards only to have a fumble ruin their début in Badger country come to an end.
Once the Badgers got the ball on their first possession it took six plays to score and to tac on a two point conversion.
The Hawks would mount some offensive drives in this game all evening long but costly penalties and an oversized defensive line of the Badgers held tight and kept the Hawks out of the end zone for this bout.
The Hawks had the ball six times and mustered up a total of 121 yards on 33 rushes and a 8 yard pass play to end the first half in which the Hawks trailed 16-0.
That rolling Badger offense controlled the line of scrimmage and rolled up the Hawks defense for gains of 17, 32, 26 and 12 yards on crucial plays.
The young 7th grade Hawks taking on the Slot T offense for the first time and learning its unique blocking schemes and running angles seemed to move the ball better as the game continued forward but never could burst out of the seams further enough to hit the end zone.
There was light at the end of the tunnel for these Hawks, as they mounted a good offense surge on their last possession before time ran out as they pushed the ball inside the Badger 32 yard line as time ran out.
Next week will give these determined seventh graders another chance to come to grips with a new offense when they take on Lago Vista at the Hawk Nest starting at 4:30pm.
Go Hawks!!
