Mountain Valley 8th Grade B squad won this game as soon as it started as the Hawks jumped out to a 22 point lead with in the first and coasted for the win over the Badgers, 30-0.

MV scored on their very first play when Paul Martinez soared across the goal line from 35 yards out.

That one play drive would happen again when Colton Eilers touched the ball for his only time during the game and made it count when he darted for his TD run from 33 yards out.

In between those two one play drives, Martinez would strike during that second drive from 27 yards this time as the referees were giving the clock keeper the ole, ‘run the clock’ and let’s go home signal.

“I was just doing my job,” Martinez said with great resolve. “I really depended on the line to open up the hole and I felt pretty strong.”

The Badgers did settle down and had a decent drive for 20 yards taking 8 plays being stopped on the 50 yard line.

Mountain Valley was driving again when the running clock ran out of time for the halftime festivities.

Lampasas middle school longest running play was for 8 yards while they had their first completion for 9 yards on their first drive of the day.

Starting the second half, the Badgers, had a 3rd down – 6 needed for a first when they would throw their second and last pass of the evening as Hunter Niemuth would take the pass in the other direction as he found daylight for what would be the final score, 30-0.

“I saw he was going to throw and I just went to the other side of the receiver and took if the ball out of his hands,” Niemuth said astutely. “I had a block that cleared me for the run.”

With the running clock the game would go fast as both middle schools had a predominantly running game.

Those stats will not look as dominant as they could have there were only 11 plays snapped in the 4th quarter.

A good win for a team that needed to be more sluggish for a chance to be on the field longer.

“We are just being cooperative and listen and then we are able to just do our job,” Niemuth finished.

Let’s hope that does not materialize as this game was over when it started and the Badgers being badgered into submission.
