CL Freshman Want More in Win over Taylor, 41-14
Canyon Lake Freshman remain undefeated after calling the Ducks out for one more hunt, winning 41-14.
“There is not enough balls to go around,” Head Freshman Coach Bill Greene said when responding to the depth of this team’s running backs. “We want to get this group of players to do anything they can to succeed and stay away from losing.”
This group of players have not been on the losing ledger for a while now and Coach Greene certainly has a chance of finishing the year with a team that would not have to remember what a bad taste you can get with a loss.
The Hawks had a good season as they are one more game away from doing a fete not yet accomplished for the Canyon Lake community in finishing this season by continuing their untouchable persona.
CL had their Junior Varsity finish undefeated back during the 2010 season which has been that one campaign where that team took care of their whole slate of games.
That 2010 group of players finished their season by outscoring the opposition, 232 to 96, with 56 of those 96 points being scored in the last quarter.
This Freshman team is presently sporting a, 250 to 55 point differential for games played this season.
Last year’s Freshman team that is now playing on the JV or Varsity was one game away from an undefeated year, but lost that chance with a loss in their last contest a year ago.
This Canyon Lake Freshman team is loaded with talent, as they have split up several players and moved them over to a Gold team which is also undefeated.
On this night, CL did not score on their first possession as a penalty brought back a score on that second play of the game and their chance for points would be delayed.
On Taylor’s first chance with the ball, the result was 6 plays and a punt which was blocked by JT Greene which helped set up a short field for the Hawk’s next set of downs.
Actually, that should read down, as CL had Trenton Lorett slice through the line for a 28 yard run and a lead that would not be threatened for the remainder on this night.
The Ducks would not go away easily as they put a 14 play drive that stalled on CL’s 22 yard line with a minute left to play in that first quarter.
Canyon Lake would travel the field with a final 1 yard run from Triston Chacon who had a 20 and 15 yard runs on this drive. Chacon finished the night with 99 yards rushing.
The Hawks had a punt and then a fumble halting their next two drives in that second quarter.
But CL’s defense would respond and kept Taylor with 3 consecutive 3 plays and punt sequence which allowed the Hawks with one more chance for a score which happened with 24 seconds before halftime.
This score was realized when Connor Rose ran it in from 5 yards out and a 22-0 score going into intermission.
Rose is one of many talented Hawk runners in this class, as these players need to make each opportunity with the ball a memorable one for getting more play time. Rose finished this game right at 10 yards per carry, not too shabby.
“I want to just keep going and not think what is behind me just what is in front,” Rose said. “I could not make those runs without my offensive line, they are the most important part.”
Rose was commenting on one run in the 4th quarter when Taylor sent more players from their sideline in trying to get Rose down during his run for 21 yards.
“Never give up and don’t get down on yourselves,” Rose said fragrantly. “You always have another chance to get what you thought you could get.”
Rose was responding on those few chances with the rock and what might happen if the run did not gain much yardage.
Nathan De Leon was one of those many lineman that has been a big part of this ride since their 7th grade year playing at Mountain Valley to this year.
“It feels good and I know that I did my job well when the runners get a lot of yardage,” De Leon said when responding on the feeling after a long run that was designed to go where he was blocking. “I want to see us go undefeated and be 10-0.”
That unblemished record seems to be a good motivator for this group of students.
The Hawks would have the ball first after halftime and the crowd had digested their hot dog. The Hawks needed just 17 yards after a Connor Rose 66 yard kick-off return.
Landry Moore was called on for this next touchdown run when he sauntered in from 4 yards out. The Hawks would now lead the Ducks, 28-0.
Taylor would put together another impressive drive, but still could not cash in as the Hawks would hold this Duck at CL’s 10 yard line after a Duck went under water for 10 plays on this drive.
Canyon Lake would then snap the ball 4 times and on that last play, Moore would race though the line for a 70 yard run with 1:08 left in the third quarter.
There were burn marks left on the field after this run as The ReSporter called for an appointment with an eye doctor after having a blur sensation during that TD score.
Moore, with that score, would finished this night with 112 yards rushing on just 5 carries.
Moore’s last carry was another score as Moore wanted more when he got to the edge and raced another 30 yards down the sideline for his third touchdown on this night.
Moore is another player working on getting noticed when he takes the field, “I will get nervous,” Moore said. “I have faith in my line but I got really tired after that long run…..but it is important for us to finish undefeated, because last year’s freshman lost their last game.”
Moore just wants one more win and then he can rest and take it more easy.
After tonight’s game many of these players will hopefully make more impressions for the coaches.
Impressive night by a bunch of Hawk players as they had a chance to show off this year in front of the home crowd while still wanting something else.
This Freshman team wants More wins and that chance will come in a week when the Hawks go to Boerne to try and get More ways to impress fans with a chance for more wins next year.
Go More Hawks!!
