CL Hawks Volleyball Beat Navarro with Sweep
Canyon Lake Hawks are right on the cusp of winning their first ever District Championship as the Volleyball team took out their closest competitor, Navarro, in a sweep, 25-20, 25-20, and 25-23.
It was the second sweep, CL has forged on the Panthers this season and now with just three games remaining, Canyon Lake will need just one win or one loss for Navarro to have sole claim to get to the top of the heap.
Count the number of team sports that Canyon Lake has been involved with since that 2008 sports year.

Now going into their 7th year, CL’s Volleyball team can be the first as they presently have a 29-8 season record and an unblemished 9-0 District 26-4A season.
Against the Panthers, Canyon Lake was methodical in the win as each game was tight up to that 15 point mark when the Hawks would get their separation for an eventual set win.
“We came out and handled business,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said. “We have been working in our practices and fundamentals of having game like situations and getting to 15 points first and then thumping and getting our foot in the door and pulling through.”
That certainly was the case again for the Hawks as they had identical scores in those first two sets, 25-20.
In that third set, CL had a 23-15 game in hand and then Navarro started clawing like a Panther as they started their rally to win the set and continue this match.
“Navarro wanted it and it was their last chance and it got tense,” A Calm Paisley recounted. “We got focused and I told the team to enjoy each point and we could get this back one point at a time.”
It only took two more of those points to send Navarro home with 2 district losses and now Canyon Lake just needs one more win to make this The Year!
The Panthers have been swept just 4 times this season and two of those sweeps were in tournament play, meaning, the best of 3 instead of best of 5 for regular games. Canyon Lake is the only team to blank Navarro this year in games needing 3 sets to win.
Navarro has only lost to one 4A school this year and Canyon Lake is that destination as the all time game series is now tied up with 6 wins a piece.
Addison Farley led the team with 13 kills while dependable Regan Mickey finished with 38 assists in this victory.
Mickey and Senior Blocker Emma Gray both ended with 2 blocks while Sam York had a good game getting 23 digs in the contest.
Canyon Lake will now go into their last full week of district games with a 17 game winning streak, last seeing their team with less points after a contest, back in San Marcos on August 27th.
The 7th Ranked Hawks (according to the Texas Girls Coaches Association Rankings last week), will be going up against Cuero on the road on Tuesday and then back for CL’s final home game this season, when Wimberley comes to town.
That Texan game is on Friday and a good way to unwind before your Hawk’s football team takes on those Billies across the parking lot later that evening.
What a good way to let this Hawk team know how you appreciate their efforts as they close out a historic season at the Hawk Nest.
Go Hawks!!
