CLJV Hawks Use Bulldogs for Herding in Win, 46-7
Canyon Lake JV beat Bandera in a run away to improve to 2-0 in District 14-4A play, Thursday night at Hawk Stadium, 46-7.
“We started to do what they are suppose to do,” Head JV Coach John Barthels said. “We were more aggressive and this team is stepping it up in practice against the Varsity and this is the result.”
The Hawks started this evening with a fumble on their 4th play of the game after covering 51 yards on those snaps.
That would be the only time a Bulldog would stop Canyon Lake as the rest of this night was all Hawk.
Running back/Defensive back, Lee Stafford had 43 yards on that first drive, with a long of 38 yards through the middle of that Bulldogs line.
Stafford was mad after the lost fumble and proceeded to cause almost as much havoc and negative yardage for Bandera than he had rushed for, but not quite.
Bandera would be held to negative 19 yards on their first set of downs while finishing the game still climbing a hill trying to break even, with minus 36 yards.
The Bulldogs had 7 out of their 29 plays with positive yardage for the evening as they were, -53 yards, going into the second half.
Meanwhile, Canyon Lake scored on every possession that a fumble was not committed.
Stafford led the Hawks with 91 yards on 7 carries as six more Hawks would contribute by the run on this night. Each runner had a 10 or longer run for their trials giving a casual fan a good idea of how the Hawks were winning the trenches on both sides of the ball.
Safety Jesse Andrade helped in closing the door on the dogs with a 33 yard interception return in the first half as the touchdowns kept piling on.
After a close encounter the week before when CLJV came back for a 12-8 victory over Liberty Hill this game would be a polar opposite.
Both sides of the line were dominant as the Hight twins would attest to.
The ReSporter will start with the youngest Hight by 1 minute, Bradley on how this game transpired, “The adrenaline and power playing was great,” Bradley started. “Our offense came out to play and it feels great to be able to open holes for a one play drive for over 40 yards.”
Bradley Hight was commenting on the run by Braden Duke who would have scored on that play, if playing two below or flag football on this night.
“We showed up to play,” Duke said obviously. “If we just do our jobs, then that is what can happen….but we will need to keep our heads up as we now have a chance for being the district champion.”
Bradley Hight also commented on how he responds to a longer drives and dominating a team in that fashion.
“I probably get a deeper rush (pardon the pun) when we can keep plunging down a team’s throats and that can give me a bigger accomplishment,” Bradley closed eloquently.
Braden Hight (the first born), also had his say, “This is a great feeling, especially the touchdown runs,” Braden recounted. “That happens, when we are doing our jobs right and do what we are suppose to do.”
On what the last two weeks were like when playing Liberty Hill and then a Bandera team, Braden said, “We just need to adjust the power stage and last week we did that after halftime and then we did not look backward.”
That was certainly what happened on Thursday night as the lines did not have one negative offensive play for the evening.
So many players were involved in this win as, The ReSporter, could have called on any young man for extrapolating a positive feedback.
Colton McDonald also had a good game on both sides of the ball, “This game made us look more consistent.”
McDonald was relaying on how playing two opposite games in a row and what can be deduced in making a run for a district title.
“We just gave it our all and we showed that we out conditioned them,” McDonald had a farm. “When we build up then that toughens us and we can be ready for everything.”
On this farm tonight, Canyon Lake was using some Bulldogs for herding and the results were positive.
Go Hawks!!
