Ducks Can’t Land on Canyon Lake, Hawks Win
The Ducks could not land on Canyon Lake as the Hawks swept Taylor, 25-19, 25-11, and 25-11 on Monday night at Lehman High School.
The Sixth Ranked CL Hawks won their first playoff game over the Ducks as they will now wait for tomorrow’s game between Sealy and Brazosport.
Canyon Lake is now District and Bi-District Champions as these games start having much more riding on them.
In that first set, Taylor did make a wake-up call as CL had a 5 serve rally for Addison Farley which put the Hawks up, 16-8.
After getting that separation, Canyon Lake never got their groove back and just played Taylor even for the rest of that first set.
“Just sloppy,” Head Coach Kim Paisley deduced.
Taylor outscored Canyon Lake, 11-9 to end that first set which would send a message that seeding does not matter when you get to this time of year.
“We finally came together in those last two sets,” Senior Bailey Drum said. “We can’t take teams for granted.”
After that first set, the Hawks would fly away as the Ducks overflew Canyon Lake and never found their bearings in the loss.
Canyon Lake would turn out the lights in those next two sets with identical 25-11 scores and the 27th sweep for the season.
This win would be the 21st victory in a row and a lofty, 17-0 record against 4A competition which is not too shabby either.
Both Farley and Bailey Drum finished the contest with 11 kills a piece giving the Ducks double vision and a good reason for missing that huge canyon Lake.
Drum’s serving was top notch as she finished with a season high 6 aces for this game while Junior Regan Mickey continues to add up her assists with 20 in this contest.
So far, District 26-4A is cooking as both Navarro and La Vernia won their Bi-District matches and Wimberley will be paired up with Liberty Hill tomorrow night in Austin.
Canyon Lake will have their sights set as they will also find out who their next opponent will be as The ReSporter will have those results posted on the ‘Volleyball is Getting Fun’ article.
“Our practices have been good,” Drum commented on getting ready for the next game. “We just need to play ourselves.”
Farley’s comments mirrored much what Drum had said, “We can’t take anyone lightly and just take the teams as they are…We are pretty close to where we need to be and we have had a lot of team bonding and we don’t have any attitude problems.”
So as this part of the season gets into gear, Addison parted with, “That bonding helps us work better as a team.”
That is good news as Canyon Lake might have their first two playoff games much like last year as a Sealy win tomorrow would set up a rematch from last year’s loss to the Tigers.
What a difference a year will make!!
Go Hawks!!
