The Hawks have had a two game slow down and this win over the Bulldogs could help in getting this team back on track as the second round of district games start to commence next week.

Bennie Brownlee was the top dog in this contest as he hit nothing but the bottom of the net in scoring 20 points.

Canyon Lake got a great contribution from the rest of the squad as each player had a say in how to train this dog.

Good defense came in the form of allowing just one point in the first quarter which helped in having a halftime lead, 29-13.

“I told the guys at halftime that we needed to stay ahead,” Head JV Coach Brian Hooper said in responding to how the Hawks had lost halftime leads in their past two games. “I wanted them to play the whole game and finish.”

Consistency is something any team needs as they enter into games and Michael Harwell has always been in that 6-10 point range in each contest as this game was no exception in scoring 7 points and a solid 8 rebounds.

Unexpected happenings can also be a welcome site as Jarred Rollins showed off his range in sinking his shot from beyond the arc while also chipping in with 8 rebounds against Yoakum.

“We had a slow start with lots of ups and downs,” Sophomore Big Man Rollins stated. “We had a good rebound from those last two losses and this will help us prepare for the rest of our district play.”

A good game from scoring in every facet with shooting 44% from the floor, 46% from beyond the arc, and 75% at the charity stripe helping keep pressure on the visitors throughout in making these dogs succumb to the Hawks!

Team effort with a low of 17 turnovers while adding 14 steals and 10 assists will always help in securing a win.

Canyon Lake will now take this act to Gonzales and see if they might be able to train an Apache next. (maybe the Apaches will have some bulldogs there)
