Hawks Don’t Get DoOver in Loss to Johnson City, Lose 7-4

If Canyon Lake could have ‘do-overs’ then redoing that 2nd Inning would be where the Hawks would have another chance of playing that inning after a hard fought loss to Johnson City, 7-4.

It has been mentioned before as this year’s Hawk team has just one Senior and has the look of how Canyon Lake started when the school was just starting.

So, this is not the first time for Head Coach Trent Dunavant to be in these situations, “I am finding myself saying things to this team that I said back when we first started.”

“This was a tough game but our effort was good and we knew this year would be a struggle,” Coach Dunavant said. “This team likes to come to the park and they are getting things done and they want to learn and teaching these guys is many times, more than just baseball.”

The Eagles got 5 of their 6 hits in that one inning to put together five runs and the eventual victory.

An error was the actual variable that led to the downfall in that inning as the young Hawk team continues to learn on the job as this season will have no chance for a time-out.

The Hawks scratched across 4 runs but just could not stretch those one run innings to multiple scores and a chance to take this game back.

CL worked 8 walks from the Eagle pitchers but only being able to get 3 hits for this game put a downer on the Hawks.

Canyon Lake had 2 outs in their first inning on the base paths which took the Hawks out of that chance to make a statement and take control.

Add another 4 baserunners being gunned down trying to steal or just being caught off base also played into how this game would end with a Hawk loss.

Pitcher Gavin Dietrich did have a good outing minus that one inning as he kept Johnson City close as the Hawks lost their last chance to take the game in the sixth inning after getting 5 walks and just one run.

“I have a big mouth sometimes,” Dietrich said in response to his emotions on the mound. “I am taking this year with a grain of salt as we are young but we are getting better.”

This game was for the taking. “We will have a good chance next year,” Dietrich commented. “This year we will get stronger.”

So, there was one part of the game that had never happened in the history of Hawk baseball on this night.

CL picked off a runner on third base from the pitcher’s mound.

Not even going to try and find out how many innings has passed for Canyon Lake to put that in perspective.

But that is what baseball is all about as their are so many parts of the game that can be improved upon.

Now the Hawks will continue this week with a game on Thursday as Burbank comes to town for the first pitch at 2:30.
