Hawks Gift Game to Burnet in, 10-4 Loss

Canyon Lake did themselves no favors in their loss to Burnet, 10-4 on Tuesday night at the Hawk Diamond.

The Hawks had double figures in the error department giving the Bulldogs way too many chances for scoring in this eventual loss.

Only 2 earned runs in this contest where CL outhit their opponent but just could not get their fielding to cooperate.

Canyon Lake closed the gap to, 4-3 in the third inning but in that inning, after a Rory Preiss rbi hit, was caught trying to advance to second base.

The next Hawk batter, Hayden Reed, would double to left field and that hit could have scored Press. Who knows what might have happened next with a tied score and another out needed for Burnet.

Those little happenings would pile up as errors and kept innings alive for the Bulldogs which would lead to enough runs that finally buried the Hawks with a 4 run sixth inning.

In that inning, the first Bulldog batter was hit by a pitch then the next two players reached via an error. The first out was a fielder’s choice and then two walks before the final run scored on a sacrifice fly.

Four runs without a hit pretty much tells the story as Canyon Lake continues to work on their game and will now play Marble Falls this Friday before district play begins next week.

The Burnet game was to be played as a road game but rain canceled that appointment having the Bulldogs traveling to Canyon Lake to get this game in.

Some good things are happening as CL did show signs at the plate with some good at bats and two well hit balls for doubles by Reed and Parrish.

The Parrish double helped score Canyon Lake’s first two runs.

Preiss and Dietrich led the Hawks with 2 hits a piece.
