Angelo State University Gets a Gem with Bailey Drum’s Signing
Bailey Drum signed her letter of intent to attend Angelo State University with a Volleyball scholarship earlier this year.
Drum will be going to Ram country this next Fall to continue her dream sport of Volleyball.
Angelo State had a 33-6 record last season after going 3 rounds in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The Rams will be graduating just 3 seniors on last year’s team as Drum will be thrown into the fire quickly for her first year of competition.
Drum finished her career at Canyon Lake with some impressive numbers.

This young lady was not just a volleyball participant but also excelled in track & field as well as
dribbling the round ball for two years as she was on the varsity for her Sophomore year.
Bailey Drum will certainly go down as one of the more accomplished athletes for Canyon Lake as she averaged over 20 points per track meet with several high marks in the hurdles, triple jump, and running the relays.
Coach Kim Paisley shared some of her thoughts on Drum, saying, “Bailey Drum is a very hard worker, in the weight room, on the court, during conditioning, and in everything she competes in.”
“She never complains, and not only works very hard, but she pushes herself and body to limits that she works to overcome,” Coach Paisley continued. “She has great mental toughness, coachable, and has great athletic abilities.”
It sounds like Angelo State will have a welcomed player to the volleyball court this season.
“Watching her grow from her sophomore year, her first time on Varsity, and to her senior year, has been amazing to watch,” Paisley said in amazement. “She began making herself known that first season and just kept ringing the bell throughout the area and the district from season to season.”
That can certainly be the case as Drum has an impressive set of awards that has been garnered during her time as a Hawk.
Academic All-District 2013, 2014, 2015 Overall District MVP 2015 Offensive Player of the Year 2014 2nd Team All-District 2013 TGVA was named to The Legacy All-Start Team 2015 The All-State Team Academic All-State Team
When asked what things Drum possesses that will allow her to be successful for her next step, Coach Paisley did not skip a beat, “Bailey is an exceptional athlete, and she is an all around athlete by being a great leader by example and silently in how she carries herself.”
As you can also see from the awards above, it can be said that Bailey competes in the classroom as well.
“She leads in school academically, socially, and in her community…Bailey has the best attitude, work ethic, and character attributes any coach, teacher, or parent could ask for their child,” Coach Paisley heaped more praise. “Bailey Drum has what it takes to go to the next level because of her determination, confidence, and by what she has put forth in excelling over the years to the next level….I look forward to keeping up with you at Angelo State University.”
That says a lot from a coach that you can tell has a ton of respect for Bailey as a person and athlete.
A Proud Dad Drum also had some accolades for his daughter, “Andrea and I are very excited for Bailey, as this was something she dreamed about doing since she started playing back in the 4th grade.”
“She was always telling Alyssa, who is 6 years older that she would be better than her and be the first Canyon Lake volleyball player to earn an athletic scholarship.”
Coach Drum ended with one of those little known behind the scenes happenings in what went on at home, “back in middle school, when she was a foot shorter and a step slower, we used to have to console her after each hurdle race because she would get beat pretty badly, and we told her that once she matured and grew a little, she would gain the speed she needed.”
“Bailey, not being very patient, preceded to do nightly stretching exercises to try and expedite the process and she still thinks this helped her reach 6 foot to this day,” Dad Drum beat. “When the first volleyball record board was put up in the school, Bailey, in sixth grade, and all 5 foot 1 of her pointed at the kill records and proclaimed she would break all of them.”
Charley Drum was not finished, “Everyone always asks how we pushed Bailey to be so competitive in school and athletics, and we just laugh, because she has always been self motivated since she was crawling and wanted to win anything she participated in.”
“I went on official visits to Tarleton State, Texas A&M Kingsville, and of course ASU and I had really great options,” Drum said in response to how many schools she was down to when she made her decision. “One reason I chose ASU was because of the overall atmosphere and the campus is beautiful and the athletic complexes are incredible….it really gives you the DI feel.”
Drum continued, “I really connected with the Coaches and team and I could see myself there as soon as I stepped on campus and when I met the team and coaches.”
Parting words from Bailey Drum, “I want to add that I’m super thankful for being apart of the Canyon Lake athletic program throughout high school!! Without Coach Paisley pushing me and this Canyon Lake Volleyball team we would never accomplished what we did in the last two years. I’m really proud to be a Hawk and to be coached by Coach Paisley!!”
“Also, it is pretty great to end my high school career as an undefeated district champ!” Bailey finished.
Dad Drum said it all when he closed, “My advice to her is to keep that competitiveness in both volleyball and her studies,” Dad Drum said. “It is an invaluable asset to have in whatever you choose to do the rest of your life.”
Congrats young lady now go into the world like you did in high school and you will be a very successful person.
