Worst Case Scenario for Hawk’s Football

Just 64 days before kick-off

 Just 64 days before kick-off

What might be the worst case scenario for this year’s edition of Canyon Lake’s Varsity?

In other words, knowing that an obvious answer being an 0-10 game count, that record did not even come about in that first year Hawk team after a win over Ingram on the road.

The ReSporter will go through what type of season, game by game, based on tendencies and what if’s based on how events happening’s with those worst case situations.

First Game with Blanco will find CL with an 0-1 record as the Hawks always have a tough time starting strong as past campaigns would indicate.

The Panthers seem to have CL’s number for that first game and this year might be more of the same.

This game is an away game for the Hawks and in the past three openers with Blanco, Canyon Lake has only been awarded 13 points.

Another note for how good Blanco has been against the Hawks, with another loss this year and a HawkCanyonLakeWebsiteAD_BusinessCardSize[3] win over Wimberley will have both teams with the same overall record of, 3-6.

The ReSporter has Canyon Lake winning at home against Austin Reagan to even their record with this 5A foe.

Reagan lost a lot of firepower to graduation from last year’s squad and having some home cooking will help in this contest.

Canyon Lake will not have many cupcakes on this year’s schedule and Reagan had just one loss in district play from their playoff team last season.

Reagan did beat a common opponent in Lampasas so that will give us a good idea of how this has a chance of being a hard fought affair with no freebies.

However, with the loss of the Raiders backfield and Canyon Lake returning all of their offensive horses, then this will give Canyon Lake a chance for a win.

Canyon Lake’s next foe will be formidable in Giddings High School.

The Buffaloes will have already played Navarro in their opener and most Canyon Lake patrons know how the Panthers can be a tough out. That game will also give Giddings a good dose of the Slot-T offense to ready themselves for their tilt with the Hawks.

Having that experience and coming off a one loss season will allow Giddings to pull off a win over Canyon Lake and have the Hawks looking at a 1-2 record and staring at Wimberley on the road next.

The Giddings game is the second game in a row with an opponent that CL have never faced.

In fact, Canyon Lake will have 4 total inaugural games with schools on this year’s docket.

The Hawks have at least one if not more games where turnovers have come into play in each season and with this being a worst case scenario article, The ReSporter has the Wimberley game coming under that tent.

CL has a history of having their turnovers coming into play against the Texan’s throughout their history.

Interceptions was the main ingredient in those first couple of years for losses and fumbles have been a culprit in more recent games.

Who could forget that fumble two years ago as Jake Merritt was running for a touchdown when a Texan’s defensive back punched the ball out of his hands to turn a sure touchdown into another chance for a Wimberley possession and score.

The Texan’s have also had salty teams which have been a main reason for putting Canyon Lake on the mat as they dust themselves off heading back to their locker room.

Canyon Lake has had some recent success in winning 2 of the last 3 games, but Wimberley will win their home game and send the Hawks looking for answers with a 1-3 record against Lampasas next on their schedule.

The Badgers from Lampasas had a successful game with CL last season.

Losing their last two contests with Lampasas will make this game tough just from a mental perspective.

A fumble loss two years ago and then being one of just two wins for the Badgers would give an indication that this might not be a good match-up for the Hawks.

In last year’s loss, Canyon Lake, did not look like they got off the bus. Lampasas steamrolled for 475 rushing yards.

This was not a good evening for your local team as the Badgers badgered CL with a 28-7 lead heading to

the halftime locker room.

Offensively, Canyon Lake could only muster 180 total yards with 50 of that real estate coming from passing.

Lampasas record coming into this game was a pedestrian 1-4 and they finished with a 2-8 mark.

The ReSporter will let you guess where this game might end up as Lampasas certainly seem to have the Hawks number and another loss will show a 1-4 record before meeting up with a 6A Austin Akins for the last non-district opponent.

Last year Akins beat Austin-Reagan which beat Lampasas. That is the only way of knowing what Akins might be bringing to the table this next season.

Akins is in a tough district and had just one loss going into district games. Being a 6A school will also allow them to reload by having many athletes and making it hard to predict what might happen in Austin.

Since this article is based on a worse case scenario, then another loss will be the outcome as this is a road game to boot.

Canyon Lake will get back on the winning track in their first district game with a win over East Memorial and this victory will most likely give the Hawks another year of having a playoff game.

Austin-East Memorial will be in over their heads and will find it very hard to win a game when it counts for this season. Hawks record will rise to, 2-5 with their next contest coming on the road with Boerne.

The Hawks have had a hard time solving the Greyhounds and this year will not be any different as Boerne will beat the Hawks to even their district at 1-1 and a 2-6 season record.

Boerne has a passing attack and the Hawks have also had a problem with turnovers in this game’s history.

Unknown-8-150x150Fredericksburg is next on the slate of games and this is one team your Hawks have performed well against with only 2 losses since play begin in 2008.

Canyon Lake will win again and shoot to a 2-1 district record and that will get CL to 3 wins with one game to play.

The Billies were on the losing side of last year’s games as the Hawk Gold team won twice while the JV and Freshman team were also victorious, which gives you an idea that this too will translate for a win.

Taylor is another team that seems to have CL’s number as this team has had a combined, 3-13 record coming into their games with the Hawks these past two years.

The Duck’s record after their game with Canyon Lake stands at 5-13 and both games have just 5 points separating those two bouts.

Very close games and this will be another nail biter, but since Canyon Lake seems to find a way to lose, then this game too will go down as a loss. (worst case scenario reminder)

Canyon Lake will finish district play with a 2-2 record which will move them to a better than 4th seed in district and a first round game against either Waco La Vega (again) or Liberty Hill. Who knows, the second place team will be loaded whoever finishes in that slot.

Once again, this is a prognostication of what could happen for the Hawks in a worst case situation and finishing with an even district record is certainly an improvement.

Next article, The ReSporter, will delve into the best case scenario as this season starts to get into the ‘only two months’ away mode.

Go Hawks!!
