Canyon Lake Freshman started their high school career much like they ended those middle school years as the Hawks finished off St. Anthony in grand fashion, 30-6.

The Hawks were able to get 10 players into the offense running the ball and that was done in grand fashion to the tune of over 11 yards per play.

That number did increase after a Cody Daily 71 yard run for the final score as the Yellow Jackets did not have the depth to keep up with the Hawks in this track meet.

Daily only needed 8 more yards to have 100 for the game and his 92 yards was accomplished by carrying the rock two times.

CL took their first drive for 59 yards on 6 plays that made a statement, this Hawk Freshman team wants to win as many games as they can for their High School career.

Nelson Madera finished the first Hawk drive of the season going 34 yards and another Hawk toting the ball for two times for a hefty 42 real estate for the game.

Ethan Slater would be next up for CL as he skirted 25 yards for a score as this drive covered 31 yards and a quick score.

Being up 24 points with 3 drives was all that was needed as St. Anthony just did not have the horses to keep up with all of the Thoroughbreds that were in CL’s stable.

The Yellowjackets finished the first half with a decent drive as they penetrated Hawk territory down to the Hawk’s 16 yard line before the defense held and the horn sounded.

St. Anthony would continue that same game offensive plan to start the 2nd Half and was able to score their touchdown when Sustaita ran 16 yards with some shifty running as Canyon Lake just missed on several chances for getting this Yellowjackets down.

That drive took 6 plays with four of those plays going at least 8 yards with the longest covering 30 yards and giving this St. Anthony team hope in starting the 2nd Stanza.

Canyon Lake would answer with a 2 play 31 yard drive for their final touchdown as the game would have just 7 total plays with the Hawks running out the clock on their last drive.

A good start for the season with all the players having a chance to show what they could do as this Freshman team has some big shoes to fill based on how the last two freshman classes have also been able to start their high school stint in good fashion.

Canyon Lake will lace their shoes up next Thursday when they will have a much tougher opponent from the 5A division and Austin Reagan lines up for the Hawks next race.

Go Hawks!!
